Nolan informed after seeing the video that the intake manifold was upside down; now it's turned and will give 100% of gas/air instead of 80% that was on the video..

Guys, pinion teeth are now 5 teeth taller than the stock with 2-stroke - do you think it's enough or should I try even taller pinion gears?

Stock 15/19
Now 20/25

Thanks

Mika,

Nolan recommended to me to gear higher and higher until I notice the car slowing down.

Right now, I'm running 23/29... And the car seems to want to do more. Unfortunately I can't find any 0.8 mod pinions that are bigger, so I will have to make some custom gears.

Many thanks Raman, I will try some taller gears.

How much taller (in teeth count) do you have in yours?

Mika,

Is the intake manifold backwards in this foto, or did you already correct it?

Hi Raman, this is the right way; if you take the air filter off you can easily see if it's not correctly installed as the opening is "blocked"

that question really should be its own topic such as "ez start on fs26" and explained slightly more clearly....2mm which way? length, diameter?

anyways...

this is one damn insane thread

i got myself an os26 ages ago, never realising it was now available as a car engine... it was exactly what i intended doing

the mods you guys do! some handy hints indeed. hell of a read...

i gotta get me a brand spanking new one to mess with... keep the plane one for the slowflyer sound beautiful with just a straight pipe

Default WOW!

So, my race FS26S-C in my gas truck was getting pretty soft - acting like it was time for a new ring. Since I had a spare sleeve from an older engine laying around, I took it to a machinist and had him cut .016" off the top just for giggles. I put that sleeve in the engine with no shims, adjusted the valves, and it was magic!

It made that tired engine run as good as or better than when it has a fresh ring in it! I'm at about 2000' elevation here, so if anyone at a lower elevation tries it, maybe put the shim in and try that first (they are .008" thick).

This just serves as a good reminder that these engines have no way to adjust the ignition timing other than by adjusting the compression. It makes sense that the FS26C would be a pretty low compression design, since its parts are straight off an ancient airplane engine. We demand more RPM and HP than that airplane compression ratio was ever intended to deliver, so I'm thinking it makes sense that we would need higher compression.
