We will have more next week, along with the new accessories. :sneaky:

what would cause the engine to stay at a higher idle when stopped? then go down?

LSN out of adjustment, idle gap to wide

bigmatt 05-12-2011 07:06 AM

It's very slight. would lsn be to rich or lean? I'm leaning to rich. I will try idle gap before lsn.

Just keep tweaking the idle gap in a little at a time until it comes in and sits with a steady idle Matt. Then if needed richen the bottom end a little to compensate. You may have to juggle these two to get the idle speed you want. The revs dropping is 90% going to be the idle gap is just a smidge too wide.
I have found when the motor is right on song with a good steady idle, the idle gap is tiny - nowhere near 1mm and probably less than .7mm going on the trusty eyecrometer (with glasses fitted) :)

exactly what tweak should be done on the idle? clockwise? counter-clockwise?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Remove your filter and check carb barrel at 1mm opening. First, best try to raise your idle to start engine and keep it running, run a couple of straights and should hit at least 190f temp then tune your idle lowest posible before leaning 1/8 on lsn.

Thanks,

If it's doing what Matt was describing then the idle gap is probably to wide.
To reduce the idle gap turn the idle screw anti-clockwise. This will allow the throttle slide to close more and reduce the idle air gap. It will also bring the low speed needle (which is attached to the throttle slide) into the spray bar more, thus slightly leaning the bottom end. This is why you may need to richen the bottom end a little to compensate.
The idle gap / low speed needle relationship is a delicate balance. Everytime you change the idle gap you effectively change the bottom end tune, so it is a bit of a juggle to get it just right and the two settings in harmony with each other. I reckon 95% of all tuning glitches occur around the relationship between these two.

hi guys, thanks for the info.. recently ran the GX2 and it has a very decent idle and running was good. Will check the idle gap, which should be about .7 to 1mm.... thanks.

Yeah - I would set the idle gap by using the pinch test when the motor is cold. This is a very accurate way to set the gap on a motor by motor basis, depending on what set up you have.

Go to the GO Racing NZ Ltd web site at http://www.go-racing.co.nz

Go to the Tech Tips page from the left hand side menu bar. Scroll down past the run-in section to the tuning section. There you will find what I am talking about. It's a bit long winded to go into on here at this time of night where I am :)
Follow this procedure for tuning from step one right through and see how you go.
