heh "only" ... it used to be said that Go motors wouldnt last that long. glad to know it.
FYI mark morrow has about 7 gallons on the GX-5R I sent him in Dec. He asked me if I should change the rod, I told him not unless there's slop in it, or he just really wanted to. Still runs like a top, and he's been running it into the ground. |

I can't thank Trey and Go enough.
Yes it is true. I have about 7 gals on my first GX5R. I did change the rod only because I was already in it putting in Avid Ceramic bearings. It is in my pit bag for now, only becasue I could not wait to run my new GXII in my buggy. I am still running a 5R in my truggy though. I have race it every weekend for the past 6 weeks. That includes all of practices and amains ranging from 20 to 45 mins. Btw I am pitting at 10mins every time in my Mugen truggy. This was my first weekend to race the GXII. I was asked what was different about it. I feel it has the bottom end power of the 5R that does not stop pulling like the 7R. I need to get it out on a bigger track to really know for sure. Good Luck to the guys going to the PNB. Wish I was going. |
what i did find with the GXII over the GX 5R is that it broke in a heck of a lot quicker!
the GX5R and 7R took around 2 gallons for the pinch to drop off,the new GXII has only had around 15 tanks and its already looser than my 2 gallon 7 port. so either they changed the material or changed the pinch tolerance..anyone else find the same? dave |
yes... I didnt want to say anything till I heard from others. The first batch were REALLY tight. I had a few words with simon about this, and was assured that the next batch would be different. The new piston is stronger and expands less when heated. The tolerances are tighter too. These 6th generation (read: GXII) Go engines are a huge step in the right direction.
|
well the engine was very tight from new,as tight as the old 5R but much quicker to break in,having run go engines for the past season im not used to the quck break in
|
yep. I race tuned mine after about 1.5L. prob could have done it sooner, but I'll wait till I have more to play with, before I get that daring. haha.

Can I use an AP 801 Pipe/Manifold on the GX5R in buggy? Or would it be better to use the 2072? I'm asking because I already have the AP 801 Pipe. Thanks!

The Aplus/SSTECH/Go FEMCA 0801 works great in buggy. I'm actually using the Aplus hardcoated one with my GXII 5 port, in my MBX6. wicked fast.

where did you find the Aplus 0801 hard coated pipe at?
