New motor time

Hey all. I'm a budget racer in AZ, trying to compete with some amazing open-class drivers at The Nitro Pit. I still run my BCE X2CRT with a 2year old GO 5port, and I don't normally give up anything between turns. It finally let the smoke out after about 7+ gallons and some bad tuning over that time, may she rest in peices.... The bottom loop of the connecting rod let go and showered the innards with sparkles, so I could have probably prevented it if I knew what I was doing when it comes to maintenance on nitro motors. Since the initial break-in rod and pin change it has remained sealed.

Sooo... I see some good pricing at NitroNorth for the now old GX5R. I want to know how the tuning profile compares to the old long-needle 5port motors of yore, and can I expect the same strong low-end to get the Jammin moving? Or does it look like enough of a change has occurred to wait for the GX2's? Dynamite 086HS pipe ok?

Also, is there a link you can post for break-in? Still use the heat-cycle method and 2 gallons before fully loosened up? This will be Go #3 for me, my first was stolen, still running strong at 5gallons, bought when Russell did the US imports.

I believe trey said that the gx motors from now on would be equiped with the same long lsn needle.....but the motors on nitro north might still have the short lsn......the gx motors are still very powerfull and will be here for awhile.....the heat cyce is still a great method of break in.....

the GX5R ROCKS in a truggy, plenty of low to top end! very easy to tune with the newer seals they have installed in them from factory. you will be happy if you decide to get one!!!! i promise;), heres a link for tuning and breaking in...... http://go-racing.vpweb.co.nz/Tech-Tips.html

thers a link to break in any go-engine. The GXR series is easier to break in. figure a gallon,12-15 tanks before you remove break in shim.about 3 gallons then rod change. They come here in the u.s. with short lsn. I put in a long lsn and the tuning is really touchy. 1 hour changes make a big difference as where the short lsn I would set at a full 1-1/2 turns in from flush and never touch again.Hsn was 1 turn in. Now about 1/2 turn in. You will not go wrong with getting a GXR or from the look of it waiting for the new model. If money is an issue I would get the Gxr 5 port. With your dynamite 086 pipe you will have fantastic bottom along with the same screaming top end. I run the GXR 3 port modded by racer22 here on the thread. It would really get that truggy hauling but the top is not the same as say a 7 port. In my buggy it is fantastic. With my gxr I run the 2072 go pipe. Stock I don't know what pipe you should run. the 086 has always been my choice, but modded gave way!! to much bottom even geared a tooth higher.

myself would never spend the money getting a engine modded, really not needed IMO. does it make the engine last longer.....NO, does it help with run time....maybe 10 to 15 seconds. does it improve bottom or top end that you can do with clutch/pipe/gearing......NO. thats just me. save the money you would spend to get one modded and just by what fits your car to begin with. the GX5R AND GX7R and the new GXII HO, all have what it takes without being modded!!;)

Nailed it mike......and if you put in ceramic bearings.....you will see even more power.....GX5R with ceramics has the top end of a 7 port and the bottom is just perfect:D...all the grunt you will ever need....then there's a 6.5mm carb restrictor that will give it even more bottom:sneaky:....I run the 7mm restrictor cause it gives the best all around performance:batman:

& as for those that think that lutz is using all the same gear as everyone else i think you maybe mistaken as i don't see many people use 40-45% nitro & going through motors like they where clutch shoes

for the record i only posted the info about ryan lutz b/c i had learned the info from him.you might want to check your sources next time.
