Just for the hell of it, I put an old truggy race motor that was spare, an RB TM928 in last years buggy, a RC8B ASSOCIATED, it will be the demo basher from now on: Something like having a 454 chevy motor in a Mini, What a blast.:D |
Oring help!
Hey all,
I need some help or a tip. Big dummy (me) took the o-ring out of the neck for the carburetor. You know, the o-ring that goes into a hole that is smaller than it is and sits in the grove around said hole? I cannot for the life of me get the damn thing back in! Been dinking with it for a couple of hours. I took a small piece of lexan and made a sleeve to hold three quarters of the thing in the grove, but cannot convince the last bit to go. ARGH! :flaming: Thoughts? |

iT IS ALSO NOT A GOOD IDEA TO REUSE THE OLD ONE AS YOU MAY HAVE STRETCHED IT GETTING IT OUT.
Hope this helps Fortunately, the same dummy who removed the o-ring (again, me) was smart enough to have a spare, but to dumb to actually look!! :D Got out a new o-ring, had it installed in less than 60 seconds. Can't believe I wasted that much time. Benefit from my experience, do NOT remove that o-ring unless you have a spare handy and throw it away! |

Word!! I had despaired that I would have to order a new o-ring and wait.

Good to see the mail delivered. Enjoy, and give us feedback on the track and the video itself.

Nice work. Your daughter does a great job. Great action footage with the odd slow mo thrown in :sneaky:. All the guys commented on the track. It is a very nice looking set up you guys have up there. All in all a great success. It's now doing the rounds, so will be well viewed :) |

We have put a lot of work into the track in the last 2 years, and hopefully this year will bring further improvements. Our club AGM is this Saturday, and a little birdie tells me they have nominated me for president. Time will tell. Who knows, we may see you race here for the Cairns Cup one day. Don't forget, my early offer still stands. |
What other cooling heads fit the GX5R?

hey guys, I got my hands on an older gx-7 and I have been breaking this motor in. I must say I was an Alpha runner for a long time but this 7 model has showed me something and I am I must say impressed. I idled 500 cc through the motor controlling the temp with the needles while I had my competition heater on it while it was running. The thing idled beautifully the entire 500 cc bottle. since then I have ran another 1000cc through it and it is coming in I believe. Using a Alpha 2090 pipe this thing seems to be insane!! I can't wait to get it on the track and see what it can do. Is there a temp range these motors like to run at to be "HAPPY"?

Should come to life fully around the 6 litre mark if not a little sooner. I never worry about temp as far as tuning goes, but when mine was temped on the odd occasion it was running at around 230 - 240 F after a 7 min heat, but this will change with fuel, plug, climate, altitude etc etc - which is why I never bother with temps. Good smoke, good performance equals a happy motor regardless of temp. One thing with the GO's is they always sound a little rich for the first couple of minutes when started from cold (unless you use the Comp Heater, which I see you do). A lot of people get caught out by leaning them on the box when they first start them, then after a few laps when the temps get up they go a bit flat. Run for at least two to three minutes before making any major tweaks if the motor seems a bit rich. Chances are it will warm to the task and start flying without you having to touch a needle. |

I'm glad you mentioned those 2 points Grizz........ I see it all the time, people making all the same old mistakes  |
