Will pretty much all cooling heads from the Go 21 range fit on my GX-5R engine? For ex a 3-port R head, and the newer GXII HO?

Need a new head for my GX-5R and just looking for a cheap and simple replacement.. Don't care what it looks like or what it says on it ha ha..

All the Pro Series and GX Series heads will fit - but not the GXII-5RHO head.
You can use it, but you will need to purchase the finned head button (21-0207X) and a set of longer head bolts (S6-3518).

I've got a ? for all the GO tech gurus...now i know that from brand new, there's a tapper to the piston (smaller on the top, thicker on the bottom), and as the motor breaks in, the tapper get's less and less until the metal pinch is gone. Now even tho there's no metal pinch, there's still a tapper to the piston, just not as great...EXCEPT on my GX-II...the piston has ABSOLUTLY no tapper from top to bottom??? but at the same time, there's no obvious signs of abnormal wear (after 4 gallons) on the piston or the sleeve. YES it still hold a tune and runs like a raped ape (espeacially on a dirt oval, as i found that out today...:sneaky:) but my ? is WHERE'S THE TAPPER??? i know that chrome is an extremely hard matterial and will not wear, and the piston is an aluminum alloy that isn't as hard as chrome so that is actually what wears, not the sleeve...do these motors now come with a symetrical piston design??? or is the life span of these motors not what they should be....remember....GX-II, 4 gallons (1 byrons and 3 cold fusion)

Taper is on the sleeve and not the piston. Getting an engine pinched restores the taper.

ok...then where's the taper in the piston?? i have NO metal pinch wich means that the piston/sleave have wore to one another...wich would mean that the piston would have the tapper of the sleeve...but it doesn't....this is just a question of curriousity, not a complaint by any means, the motor makes awesome power with such an OOOOOOOHH so smooth power band!!!

pistons do not have a taper, the sleeve has a taper that causes piston to tighten up towards top of sleeve.

hustler777 09-24-2011 05:34 PM

so the sleeve has the tapper got it....but when the piston moves up the sleeve, it creates friction on a harder surface.....now one of the two have to give up something, and with the piston being the softer of the two matterials, the piston would wear to the shape of the sleeve....now i know someone is going to chime in and say that the sleeve expands when warm, wich is true, but it's such a minute amount that it really isn't relevant. (if it expanded much, the tensil strength of the chrome plating would cause it to crack and peel.) now with all that being said, it's obvious that the piston will wear to the taper of the sleeve, so where's the taper in the piston when it's completly broke in??? the piston doesn't get taller to compensate for the change, and any aluminum alloy has never been know for shape holding....i wish i could type as well as i could talk in person, ya know LOL!!!

a sleeve is softer than a piston. ive never seen a chrome plated piston or sleeve.

Oh come on now. I know that after all the nitro engines that you
have owned. You must have learned what the term, ABC construction
of a cylinder means ? If not, you should do some research to find out
how they are made.

Flanno 09-24-2011 09:59 PM

:spidey:

grizz1 09-25-2011 03:58 PM

Like Rage says, check out the ABC construction thing. It should all become apparent if you read up on that somewhere.
