Dash for Cash Results
 
The yearly Dash For Cash was run on this weekend at CRC Raceway. Pro level fast guys from the Northeast and Canada were in attendance. Jimmy James of Kyosho, TLR drivers Frank Calandra and Tom Firshing. The field was deep.

Tires of choice for the track were the VP Pro Turbo Trax in Ultra Flexx compound using VP Pro wheels. The Caster ZX-1.5R buggy felt great. The track is very technical and set-up is critical. After a few practice rounds the track dried out and got loose. I changed the rear diff fluid and shock position. The changes made the car feel planted.

After 4 rounds of qualifying I was seated 11th overall which put me on top of the B main. The 15 minute main was run where I had a lap lead bumping me to the A main. After the 30 minute A main I finished 7th.

The motor tune was great all weekend. I used S&W Fuel Trophy Blend 30% all weekend with awesome results. Low temps and a solid tune.

It was a great day for Caster Racing USA, GO Engines USA, S&W Fuels, and VP Pro tires.

Next race is in Rome, NY on 9/8.

lol those modified motors of yours Neal must be making some crazy horsepower, last week i read they were too strong for a regular 4 shoe clutch and now they can't run OD plugs, what about an OS?...how much more HP do they have over a std GO or Alpha motor and what sort of money does would we pay for one?

Every time I run my engines, they just keep getting better!

1st place finish "A" main buggy and 1st place "A" main truggy.

They ran electric buggies and truggies with the nitro cars and trucks. Only one truggy could keep up my pace and then he started thermaling, so he pulled out. Stupid e-cars, hahaha!!!:lol:

3 port
 
Just a question for the GO guru's out there. What run times are people getting with the 3 port. Im just going to stick with a basic motor for the rest of the year and avoid all the BS that comes with the high end motors. Ive had a MG66 and a few 5 ports, but just want bottom end and economy. To be honest i think less is more when it comes my .21 engines. They have too much power for my heavy finger :lol: Also what pipe runs best with the motor, i was thinking of trying my OS 2060 with it.

I am assuming you are talking the GX-3R motor ?
The 3 ports are pretty economical. We can get 10 min out of them here running the GO EFRA 2072 (which is by far the preferred pipe for this motor if you want power and economy). The Dynamite 086 is nice too, but I don't think you can race the Dynamite pipe in Aus.
The major down side of the 3 Port in stock form is it's lack of top end.

To be brutally honest - if you want smooth power and economy, you should get one of the GXII-5RHO's. The new Generation 6 HO's are streets ahead of the GX motors (which were pretty good in their own right).
We are getting 10 min in buggy and 11.5 - 12 min in truggy with the GXII, and a smoother and more powerful motor you would not want for (not at the price).
Bottom, mid, top, easy tuning, economy, reliability, and very light weight with low COG. What more could you ask for at under $300.
Run a GXII-5RHO with the 2072 pipe and you will be a happy man :)

Thanks mate, talked me into it :smile: I just wanted a cheap motor I could throw over my shouder without the tears. I checked the pricing and it isnt much difference between them. Plus I aready have the pipe, that willl save me a few dollars :nod:

+1, although the GX5R is still a awsome engine and will keep up with any GXII HO engine, i have a couple of each and have to flip a coin to see what one i want to run each week. (they all run excellent!) customer service is top notch!! at least it was at the start, but really no longer need it;), i do have a few emails in about a new GX5R cooling head but havent heard back in a couple weeks. i have supported GO ENGINES since the GX5R came out and have been happy with the results!! just need a new cooling head to keep me happy...LOL, Bought one off ebay and never got it. hope runne can help me out! still waiting for a responce!

I just bought a GXII from Frankton Models and had them do the pre run in service. Along with it, I bought a competition heater as well.

Any suggestionss? I am using the GO starter box on a 12v Gel cel battery. Could the gel cel perhaps be the problem? Would a gel cel usually have enough grunt to turn over a new GO, or should i look to upgrade to a lipo?

Frustrated the hell out of me and have packed it in for the day.

what are u using to power the comp heat ?
don't use the same battery to heat & start the motor, especially during run-in, the gel cell is fine to start the motor as i used them for all my starter boxes & have run-in 8 motors in 12 months using the comp heat off a separate gel cell.
& don't use 4s lipo with the comp heat as it will burn out the element. 3s lipo max

don't try to start the motor until u have a bit of heat coming through the chassis were the engine mounts are as well.

u could try using a run-in shime for the first couple of tanks.

the gel-cell and new engine dont mix well, preheat to 180 to 200. before start. atleast through the first 2 gallons, i think the problem is the gel-cell, i use a 4s lipo in my ofna box and will spin anything, ive actually spun my truggy right off the box:lol:

Been using a lipo on the heater, and have heated thoroughly so there is heat into the chassis, but box just can't get it past tdc on the first spin, occasionally get a couple of turns, but never enough to get it fired.

Have a lipo waiting, just need to buy a couple of deans connectors for it.

Thanks for the offer, that is great service from the GO Family!
But I'm in New Zealand, so would be more hassle than its worth. Will just pop down to the local electrical shop tomorrow or Monday and get it sorted.
