Why are they of a concern to you? Some people like the idea and some don't. I have run double shielded bearings for years without any real problems of any kind and I always have gotten more life out of them than most single shielded bearings. I also feel they help with the higher case pressures and keeping foreign debris out.

Only because I had never noticed any engines I have run in the past use them. So in essence, sounds like to me you think a dual shield is a better option. Thanks for the info.

The higher end RB engines in the 1004 and 1005 series came with them and I thought they worked great. Some of the Novarossi engines come with them and they work well. I prefer them as the have oopossing seal lips so the internal pressure forces a better seal on the positive lip on the backside of the bearing and the positive seal on the outside helps to shield from debris. The single shielded bearing tend to wear out faster due to the rear of the bearing being open. The case pressure forces the fuel and oil with a higher velocity past the negative side of the seal causing the bearing to weep and the dirt and debris stick to the weeping fluids and grind out the bearing prematurely. Of the single shielded bearings I have tried, I don;t get more than a gallon if that out of one where I consistantly get 4-5+ gallons out of the TKO double shielded ceramics I install in my engines. I haven't tested the stock Arrow bearing so I have no idea how it will hold up but the double shield is a good start in my book.

Alot of people insist the double shields dont get enough lubrication but I have never had a problem with the front bearing not getting lubed from normal operation. The seal on the backside allows just enough weeping into the center of the bearing to lube it but it creates that break in pressure keeping the fluids contained better on the inside of the bearing instead of pushing its way past both seals.

Well had some time to look over the Arrow GTR.21 today some and get it on the break-in bench. The timing is not exactly like a Vspec i can tell you this much so its not a complete copy of a Vspec. The engine looks to be of good quality and nice fit ad finish. The pinch is VERY VERY tight! I recommend that pre heating be a must for breaking these engines in. Got it fired up and it ran very smoothly on the bench today. Responded solid and correctly to every needle change i made on it. Cant wait to get this in car and do some more run in. :tire:

Look to update with actual X-Dyno results sometime in the future as well as more information as i go and have time to do testing. So far so good.

NICE!!!;)

Clarification the rod, Crank, sleeve and piston will fit in a OS VSPEC?

Yes. Only exception that I found is the backplate/crankcase must stay matched arrow-arrow O.S.-O.S.

Hi there, are there two different specs for these engines as I have seen a couple of different coloured heads in photos? Just like the standard V spec and the Speed version.

Cheers.

Adam,

Any idea of which pipes you will test with? Id like to see the RE11, RE10 and Alpha 2081 tested.

No just one at this time. Currently it's a round head. Do you have links to the photos you mention?

I think any thing that works on a vspec will work. I have driven my brothers car with 2050 and 2060 and it friggn rips. Smooth and strong bottom crisp midrange and nice top end. I think it is a little stronger engine than a vspec though. We will find out when AB mods gets done with his evaluation. :sneaky:

I just finished taking the engine through it's initial breakin and test and tune session and so far so good. The engine runs very strong with my full race porting and as mentioned by Adam at AB Mods, the carb responds well to every input and I also went back and forth several times to see what it did in response and it was dialed. Never ran the stock engine but the race ported version runs like my race ported V-specs so it is very strong all around but smooth enough to get the power down efficiently. I ran it with the RE10 pipe as recommended by Mike Cleary at Answer RC and very impressed with it so far. It will be running this coming weekend at the 5th Annual Canadian Indoor Offroad Shootout so I will have a report next week as to how it performs throughout the weekend.

Purchased the GTR21 to install in my friend's new Z01T. Installed 2050 pipe, P3 plug, and using original OD 30%. Wow...this engine has a noticeably different powerband than a V-Spec. Much more pinch than a V-Spec or Speed. So far I'm extremely impressed the engine out of the box, cannot wait to see it on the track.

Does anyone know if the EB Mods v2 Ninja head button will work on this engine? Concerned about the deck height as I know Ed modified that and required folks use his shims.

powerband

When you say noticable difference, is it smoother? more top? what clutch set up did you use?
Thanks

IMO the engine has more punch than a Vspec. Obviously this is an early review as I have yet to get it on the track. Clutch is stock OD 3 shoe aluminum in Z01 Truggy.
