Besides some visual similarities they are very different engines. The argus is A screaming engine that is easy to tune and holds a tune very well. It has crazy top end and xlnt bottom end while still being smooth and controllable. It is awesome for buggy or truggy. Also the Argus engines do not have the Piston hole oblong where the wrist pin goes thru like the Alphas do. Maybe Alpha fixed that with the new models?

Thanks,
Lance

The A series motors from Alpha are the newest, the Argus is very similar to the Alpha S852 orange head. The only difference is the head and the crank, everything else looks to be the same.

That's correct. Argus has nothing in their line like the new A-series Alpha engines. However this does not take anything off from Argus since they are very good engines

The engine is a quality engine for sure. Got two new ones I am getting ready to race. Break in has gone very well on them. A positive is also cost as many of these are being sold well under the $200 mark. Any quality racing engine in that price range is a great deal.

Hi guys, i have 2 engines coming early next week for testing, really looking forward to see how they compare. We are making the change from Go engines so it will be an interesting test. The feedback on here has been very positive so quite excited for what is to come!

Recently a friend and I went to do a day of testing, and on the drive up, he had mentioned to me "Why do you run that cheap engine? None of those cheap engines run real good, and they always struggle holding a tune". I had told him that until the thing let's me down, I have absolutely no complaints about it at all.

Well thru the day of testing, he had some tune issues with his CRF Orion (it has allot of running on it, probably 5-6 gallons) but he was impressed that I had zero issues all day with it. I never took a temp, never turned a screw. And this was in 35-45 (F) deg temps. I'm just about at the 2 gallon mark, and I am still running the same O'Donnell 87T in it that I broke it in on.

And while we practiced he was struggling at making the jumps, where I had absolutely zero issues clearing anything.

On the way home, he actually admitted that he needed to eat some crow lol.

I think I know who you are talking about. And that's pretty good if you got him to admit the "cheep" mill wasn't bad.

it does feel good to see people get mad about their $300+ engines, when they start to lose compression and whatnot...then they see our under $200 engines( no specific brand) and say why do you run the cheap engines?....well for 1. Im not out of $300 or more when time comes and they pop...2. its alot cheaper to rebuild taiwan engines than italian or japaneese...3. they make just as good power if not more( in certain rpm ranges)...so why not run em....every Argus motor i have seen ran great(in the hands of the right tuner)

I myself have been stung by some "cheaper" engines myself. And my general thoughts were that the cheaper engines ran good, but the pinch didn't last long.

The Argus has been a big surprise so far. Rex talked me into trying one, and I have been happy I did. I think it is great on value.

As far as my friend, his engine is pretty tired and has a new Orion going in as we speak. He's actually on the Kyosho Team, so he get's a break on them. He just hadn't spent any time really watching my car this year.

Raced my Argus in my truggy this weekend for the first time. Spent the week breaking it in and getting a race tune on Saturday for the first time (not the best plan at a good sized state type event). But everything went very smooth. By the end of the day had a really good handle on the engine. I was very pleased with the top end of this engine. I had plenty of speed on the straight. I ran a 2081 on it. I need to keep working on getting a little more bottom end grunt for the big jumps on the track. Wanting to try a 801 pipe on it next. Just have to find one....

The Argus engine lived up to its billing on this thread and the positives I have heard about it. Excited to see how this thing does as it finishes breaking in and I get a full tilt tune on it.

Argus will be my engine of choice for sure this season!

The best thing of all for us here in Cali is that the Argus engines and parts are readily available from RC Renew .com (Which also fit the Alpha line of engines)

Glad to hear! The Argus has a lot of bottom with the 2081. Just curious what clutch you are running? When these things are dialed they have crazy power from bottom to top.

I am running a Kyosho St-rr and have the Blue Alum Shoes and 1.0s. I got some advice to run the 1.1 on the truggy. I loved the top end of this engine. Engine temps in the low 240's. I have right at 3/4 gallon on it right now.

I had a few people asking about it as it was the first one we have had ran at our track. The price break of these engines are appealing to many racers. I am pumped and cannot wait to dial it in total....
