Just got the new Argus mill in the mail yesterday. Was hoping to break it in soon, but they are calling for some snow. I have heard that Alphas take about two gallons to fully break in. This hold true for the Argus?

They are tight when you get them, but do not think two gallons. My Alpha took a little over a gallon. Both the Argus have had all the metal pinch gone before a gallon. I would look for anywhere around 3/4 depending break in. You will be ready to race way before that though. Usually, you will have a race tune and the motor will suddenly richen up....then its done. LOL

Yea, I would say about 1 gallon before they are totally broke in. But I have a couple customers who I race with that put 15 tanks on them for break in and then started racing them and both have over 3 gallons and engine still look in great shape and have xlnt compression with great results. I dont think they are as tight as the Alphas are. They break in pretty easy.

I had about a half gallon on mine and started racing it. Havnt had a single issue. Almost 3 gallons now and still has a ton of compression.

Alphas do take about 2 gallons to fully break in BUT everyone i run with including me, idle 6-8 tanks at 200-215 degrees then pretty much race tune them, 8+ gallons later and still run like new IMO better than new. still have pinch and all... my last one went 8+ until a run away at WOT popped the rod... a friend of mine idled 4 tanks and did a full blown race tune and has 6+ gallons on his Alpha...i dont recommend that though

Thanks for the posts. Now if there was a way to just get the darn snow to go away.

Put a couple tanks threw the Argus today. And i am very impressed. I was on my street which is tar, and it had a boat load of top end. I had it a bit rich still temped at 225 for both tanks. But i was really pleased i even timed it at 11:30 min on the second tank. Granted it was on a street but it still impresses me. Cant wait to get it on the track

Yea your still a bit rich. Ive got almost 3 gallons on mine and a race tune, it runs between 240 and 260. Same as what he Alphas did. In race conditions Im runnin 10 min mains and still have a quarter tank left. 20 min mains 1 stop thats it. As long as its not lean boggin and blowin smoke I really dont pay alot of attention to temps anyway.......

High temps in Minnesota right now are 30-40*F. Unless the head is wrapped, 225*F sounds pretty good.

The top three fins i had covered in foil. I don't go for temp tunes lol i could tell it was a lil fat still, I wanted it that way for the motor only has about 8 tanks on it now.

Ive got over 3 gallons on mine now with a 801 pipe and it runs great, 10 min plus run times good bottom , good mid and good top. My buddy just bought one, didnt have a 801 so he put a 2057 on it. With little less than a gallon this thing screams....... Smoother bottom than the 801 little less torky, about the same mid as 801 but what a top, the thing screams and hes still running on the fat side as to where Im pretty much as race tuned as I can get. So if you dont have a 801 around, give the 2057 a try. Oh and these are both in Losi 8T 2.0s. Im really tempted to get one for the outdoor series coming up, more straights means more power to the rear....... This motor and a 2057 in a buggy would fly....
