I've run a Caster Grenade in an RC8 buggy, and have a Go GXR 5-port in my SC8. Both engines are great, but from what I have seen, the Jammin is more powerful. I had a Nosram 21RR(which should be identical to the Jammin) in my RC8T, and it had great, wild screaming power - it was fantastic with the 2063 pipe.. I like all the above engines really.. Just probably wouldn't trade for the Argus unless it's as or more powerful than the above. A Werks B5 maybe?... Sounds like they're the new bar for budget bigtime power.., along with Alpha and now Argus I guess.. Again, just mulling options in the midst of a long boring winter...

Wheelspin and bumping pipes because of excessive uncontrolled grunt is not what I call usefull :p |
A Ferrari isn't necessarily more "useful" than a Hyundai either for going to the grocery store.. Would be more fun though..
Again, not racing seriously.. Maybe race some buggy this year depending on various factors.. But even then, I'm not the type of RC'er to obsess about set-up, run-time, having twelve sets of tires, etc.. Would mostly be racing against myself to be honest. And the little extra thrill (and challenge I guess..) of a mega-powerful engine blasting down the back-straight is all I want... Saw a good racer running a Toro Nero in a buggy last year. Was a handful, but sure looked like fun... I know the trend in engines and pipes etc is better run-time and "smoother"(i.e. weaker..) power delivery, bla bla bla.. But I really couldn't care less about any of that.. More of a fun hobby for me than the kind of thing where I obsess about 30 seconds extra run time or shaving two tenths of a second off my laptime or whatever.... |
If you liked the Werks, I think you will be happy with the Argus. I have a friend that just switched from it to the Argus and he has been very happy. I am not downing Werks at all, I think they are great motors.
|
Ive run the Werks and a Alpha S852. I personally think the Argus has more power than both of them. Different spots in the power band but it does have more power. Where this motor seems to really shine is the top. Like outamoney said I dont think youll ever see it all unless you have a 200 ft straight.....

I will have a Argus going on my dyno very soon............then we will see whats what with these mills......... The Werk's engines crank out huge HP once you pull the breakin shim, so I am going to shocked if it matches the Werk's.......
|
Man I wish everyone thought like you. Maybe I could win a damn race!

Hey Neal, I think it will even without removing any of the shims it comes set up with. Mine only has 6 tanks on it and it rips. Oh and just from the little testing I have done The R/C Pro Voodoo #5 plug seems to be the plug of choice.

I've been watching this thread for a bit and while it is possible that it might I think that you are probably going to end up being quite surprised by the actual results when you see them on paper. One thing that you have to keep in mind when passing on comparative information is that your tuning skills or I should say "ability and/or knowledge of how to adjust a carburetor so that an engine performs to it's optimum capability" has probably increased greatly from the time that you first started racing. It was I think only 8-12 months ago that you had just started racing with our B5 as (if memory serves me correctly from our discussions in the past) your first engine. So it is natural that as time progresses and your tuning ability increases, your engines will start to perform better. I think this is now your 4th (or possibly 5th) engine and you will probably find that you like your next engines even better still! Either way though I'm glad that you got things figured out and happy racing! No matter which engines you ultimately end up using I'm glad that you stuck it out and stayed in the hobby! :):)

Ron you are probably right. I have come a long way,I have made my main goal motors. Before this I rebuilt car engines to go fast. How difficult can this be LOL. I am learning and think Im getting better as I go along. I couldnt rebuild a smallblock chevy to put out 400 hp the first time I built one . But as time went on I could. Your motors are great and one of my buddys swears buy them and its all he runs. My problem now is Im getting my motors to run faster and cant stay on the track anymore. (my next goal, learning how to drive lol)

Was able to start my break in process on my engine today. I have ran only 7 tanks so far as it started getting dark but so far this motor has been flawless. I can't wait to get it completely broken in and on a track somewhere.
I have been told by many people that I am one of the most neaftive people they have met as I am not easily impressed with anything and tend to be somewhat of a butthole when it comes to "calling it like it is" but I have to admit I am very impressed with this engine so far. I have owned and raced almost every brand out there and this one was by far the easiest to start on the box and it just ran flawless! I honestly can't believe how well this motor ran today with just seven tanks. If this is a sign of things to come I have found an engine that will never be replaced by another brand. Before anyone assumes that I am just promoting a brand that I sell I am dealer for about 12 other manufactures and have NEVER posted anything like this in any other thread. Like I said it takes ALOT to impress me and I think saying that I am impressed is an under statement. Will continue to post updates and things progress but so far this is a GREAT mill. |
Well I just got home from racing. I didnt do so great 14 truggy A-main. I ended up 11th. Good news is the motor ran perfect. in 50 degree weather it never went over 205 degrees in a 20 min main, I think I can lean it out a little more on top. Almost a gallon through it now. The even better news is this thing has termendous run time. Still running fat and I pitted at the 10 min mark finished the race and still had some fuel in the tank..... Once I lean this thing out a little bit more it should see almost 12 min. in race conditions. The other thing that is great is this thing was keepin up with all other brands of motors and it still hasnt dropped its nuts yet.......

Just got back from the race....we had our two Argus engines as well as three new ones running today. Everyone was very impressed.
I ran a 10 minute B main, without stopping, and still had approx 25 cc in the tank. Run the 20 min A main on one stop...pit man said I still had another minute easy. One truggy was getting over 10 and other buggy was pushing b/t 9 -10, which is an improvement for him. Dont haver results yet, but know we ended up with a 1st and 7th or 8th in Pro Buggy, 3rd in Truggy. Had another top 3 goin, but one of us had servo issues in main. Two of the new motors were being run by racers that have always run $300 mills. They said that power wise, Argus was hands down the one to have. We were discussing the HP and I told him that some people were hoping to Dyno the motors to see what they produced. He just laughed and said..."I just pulled every motor down the straight and had plenty left on top, I do not need a Dyno to tell me that". Guess thats a pretty good summary. Glad everyone is enjoying similar results. Hope to run again tomorrow. |
