They do come with that grease, but I always found it better to clean it out before doing anything, just incase there is any debris left from the factory. I just dont like the idea of turning it over on the box to make it easier to break it. Seems to me like it would wear the sleeve prematurely with little lubrication. Weather its argus, alpha or go, these engines always seem like it takes about a gallon and a half to fully break in. Ive seen them break in fully on the track and they fatten up around a full turn on the top. I would rather take the time to break in in fully to avoid this durring a 30 min main.
You have to remember, when Im turning over on the box it has been heated up to 200 degrees with a heat gun or good blow dryer, Sleeve has expanded just enough to actually shape the piston to the sleeve. Like I said its 2-3, 4-5 second bursts. Anyways aside from all this Im glad that were both happy with the motor lol...... I personally think it rocks.

really curious to hear about how your engine holds up to your break in method. Please give detailed info along the way and keep us posted how long it lasts with no changes to the internals. Thanks

Just a little FYI....I broke mine in the WOT method. Keep in mind, this was with everything set really fat and plenty of lubrication. This has been in some motor instructions that I have gotten with other motors. It is recommended in order to clean out the lubricants the factory puts in at the time of assembly. If you do it the way I did, the motor is over 200 (with heat) and the WOT is set rich enough that tank of fuel only last about 3 minutes.

I have over five gallons and not the first issue. I have yet to open up the motor.

However, JJenkins broke his in like Jaz240. I do not think that he has quite as much fuel on his, but he has no issues and has yet to open up his motor.

I would say that either method works very well. Some of the pros that I have heard doing the WOT are doing this without the motor being excessively fat because they are in a bind and need to race. I do think that this should only be done if you have to.

Since I said all of this, I am not a pro, mechanic, engine specialists, etc....so do not take my advice. LOL

Glad to hear everyone is liking the motors so far.

Hey if it works for you, go with it. It took me a while to trust in the WOT meathod. In fact, I probably wouldnt do it to a novarossi, only because they seem to have less pinch from yhe factory. Hence the reason why im changing the rod.

Good luck to you and let us know how she runs...

You think it took you a while to trust WOT? I had to turn the other way and put ear muffs on so I would not have to hear it. LOL Getting a little better now....I watch, but keep my muffs on.

From factory settings how much did you richen the motor before start up for break in WOT method? May give this one a try on mine this Sunday.

Lol! Thats pretty much how it went. Unfortunatly, I had to keep the heat gun on it so I couldnt turn away. Im sure my neighbors are happy. I work late so I did my break in at 8am.

My buddy and I did this with our alphas going buy Jimmy Wrights Alpha Plus Preferred break in method. The only thing we changed was heat cycling it on the ground moving, instead of idleing on a box. I got 6 gallons out of my alpha before the piston pin loosend up and the piston let go, my buddys is still running with 8 gallons on it. All original. Could use a pinch but he said what the hell. He wants to run it till it blows. The way I see it if I can go out and race full out 2 times a month practice a couple times a month and get 6 to 8 gallons out of a motor before anything breaks Im happy. So far with the Alpha I have and for the way the Argus runs right out of the box I dont think there will be a problem getting 6 and probably way more. Jonathan thank you for bringing this motor to the U.S. Ive had two of the brand name Itialian motors that were broke in buy the book and neither one of them made it to 6 gallons before there were internal problems of one sort or another.

I will have to check the Alpha book to be sure. I used instructions from it. I am pretty sure that I come out two full turns on top before starting. I then came out some more until motor would barely idle (this was all done ASAP after starting). Then WOT and don't get 2 scared.

BTW....I am not connected to them in any way, but Competition Heats are a dream come true for breakin in a new motor.

Thanks for the info.

I have a Comp Heat unit waiting and ready to assist me in this break in. A great product for sure.

3 turns sounds about right. When you open it up you dont want too many rpms, mine would bog down so bad it would almost flame. When that happens, crack the fuel tank quicly just to let some air in. its going to suck the fuel out so fast the muffler wont be able to pressurize it fast enough. keep a good eye on your fuel level as it will go through it very quickly. You will also need to keep constant heat on it, so keep a good eye on that. Never let it get below 200...

Hey, can anybody here compare the Argus to the Jammin JPX 21 powerwise? I don't race seriously, so am not all that concerned about runtime.. Just want power(all 21's get enough runtime for my purposes..)

Basically, I got the Jammin cheap, so could sell it unused and get an Argus cheap too.. Just for the hell of it.. Would be pretty much a straight-up trade. Got an engine fetish and it's winter here so have a couple months til I can really run anything anyway...

I have never run the Jammin, so I do not know how it would compare to the power of an Argus. I have run OS, Alpha, Go Tech, and Ninja. The bottom is as strong as any of these and the mid to top end is very surprising. I have still not topped out on any tracks that I have run...and one was close to 180'. Someone else might can give you a better comparison.
