If you're replacing such a high caliber engine such as the Reds, I would get the R8 and 0801 combo for the buggy. Being the R8 is similar to the original Lutz, you should get good bottom and top from the combo but if you want smoother power band with a screaming top, I would get a 2058 pipe.

I've loved 5 ports since the GRP Ninja I had years ago. So Ive always preferred to stay with them.
Sadly I've been meaning to buy a motor for a month now but the pockets aren't empty so time to empty them...again

Well raced my d52 for the first time this weekend at the midwest nitro race and all i can say is what a great motor. First this was in my new 3.0 that i never raced yet. Got to the track late so only got about 6 laps in before pratice stopped. Had a few eletrical problems with the car the first two rounds but third round got a good run in qualify in the back of the b main. Started the main and within 3 min was all the way up to third and closing and then had some more eletric problem (spektrum). Kinda disapointing but the motor from rex (d52) is a killer motor super smooth and for the price i dont think you could ever beat it. Thanks again rex for a great motor.

Here is a vid of Kendall at the J Concepts Spring Nats. He started 3rd but a servo went out. Kendall was running a modified R8, he was pitting at 9 minutes which for him is the best mileage he has ever gotten.

I got my new R8 engine friday and again the break in was great, this engine Rex lapped for easy break in and he also did his work on the crank to get a little more rpm from it. I had it broken in and ready for the track saturday to finish the running in and to get it tuned and ready for the Dual race this coming weekend at the Proline test track and Thunder Alley Rc tracks. By the end of the night I had about a half gallon through the engine and had it tuned in with a 6.5 insert. This R8 is some serious power, it has a ton of bottom but with Rex's mod to the crank it never stops pulling. It blows my mind that these engines make so much useable power at this price point, I can honestly say I have not driven a car with this much power at any price. I am not 100% sure how much top end the stock R8 has but with just minor crank timing adjustment I can say this motor makes enough power to put a smile on anyones face. In my opinion most guys will find that the D52 power band for buggy is spot on especially if you dont have great grip at your track, but if you want a motor with more power from bottom to top look at the R8 modded by Rex. This is my first modded motor as I have always been hesitant because many modders over do it but this motor has a great idle and is power everywhere with no dead spots it is ultra crisp response. I will have a busy weekend at the Dual and it is an out of town race for me but I will do my best to get some video on a couple of the best layouts you will ever see. Thanks Rex and RW mods this thing rips.

I ran my D52 this past weekend at the Jconcepts race in Omaha, motor was not fully broke in but close. Fri was all day practice-I replaced the breakin plug with a OD97t v2 plug paired with the 0801 pipe tuned on it a little but kept it slightly on the rich side, motor idles perfect, smooth power band driving around, pulls very nice on the straight, decent bottom end for the jumps even though it was on the rich side. by the end of the day with it I knew it was a couple hrs rich but left it alone to get ready for the quals Sat.I wasn't to concerned with making 5-6 min heats so the first qual out the motor did everything I asked of it and temped at 215. leaned a bit, 2nd qual 240ish with more than enough power for the track. I left it around there. Now comes the mains Sun - I knew the motor was fairly close but I put a race tune on it and off we went. Btw I adjusted my Buku clutch and softened two shoes on the clutch since the motor had enough to pull it. I have always pitted at 10 mins with room to spare and my pit guy called me in at 10 mins on the nose. second time at 20mins, at the end of the race I finished 3rd for a podium. fairly humid Sun and the temp was 265ish, they love the heat. For the last couple yrs I have always run the Alpha Redhead/club racer with the same results for mileage..etc. but the D52 has a lightly different feel with more top end pulling - I'm really liking this motor in the buggy. I did not try it in the truggy but I have a A852 working great for me. thats all just wanted to share.

Here is a vid of Kendalls truggy, Rw Mods .23. 0801 pipe

Danny how did the truggy engine look? It basically had lapping and 2-3 tanks on the bench and he said he only ran it 5 min. before the qualifiers.

It was ripping down the short back straight, but was most impressive over the tripple. It took good motor to hold a tight line and still have enough to clear it. Kendall was holding tightest to the pipe of any truck out there and still clearing it with ease.

Well I should have posted sooner but just been really busy. I got my A5 from RW Mods about 2-3 weeks ago. Had RW do the lapping on the motor and that helped get it race ready so much faster. Went down to Lincoln IL to run the first round of MWNS at RJD hobbies. The warm up race went great! Motor was still running a little on the rich side but it put me in the front of the pack to start. The motor ran great and I ended up finishing 1 in that race. The next day we started qualifiers and after first round I was sitting in TQ. Come time for the mains I was sitting in second. I got about 8 minute pits. I will say for the money this motor is AWESOME. Thanks again to RW Mods. Cant wait to try out another one modded or another one of the great argus motors
