practice run times are not accurate, even qualifying runtimes are not accurate, because you are not chasing anyone..

Personally I think this whole obsession with 10 minute pitstops has had some catastrophic results for many racers....I have seen hundreds of flameouts due to fuel starvation at the races I have attended over the years...and to date I can't really recall any races where a 10 minute pit actually was the deciding difference on who won and who lost....Heck I have seen guys unable to get a 10 minute pit, win the race regardless, then still change engines because it didn't get 10.... He truthfully was more concerned with getting a 10 minute pitstop then he was with winning the races , Of course different strokes for different folks so I am not judging or anything......
I just find in order to get great run times you need to run the engines a little lean and be willing to run the tank nearly dry........2 things that will take away stability..... Its one thing for a top professional to have a mastery of the needles and be skilled enough to safely run the engine on the razors edge to get the crazy runtimes, but a whole other ballgame for the average club racer..... I have dealt with thousands of enthusiasts over the years and I can count the fingers on less then 2 hands the number of guys who I feel posses the level of skill needed to play the run time game and actually come out ahead.....The reality is most end up having erratic tuning issues, flame outs and premature and excessive engine wear......... So for me I just don't see the need to deal with all that when there's less then a 1% chance that runtime will have any real effect on the outcome of the race.......... whats even worse is these forums have every novice convinced they need 10 minute pitstops over every other running characteristic of their engines....You wouldn't believe the number of emails and PM's i get from guys just starting out convinced that they need 10 minute pitstops in their very first race engine........it is the # question I get asked..... IMO I prefer guys to run the engines slightly on the richer side as well to not run their fuel tanks much below the top of the clunk or pickup.. By doing these 2 little things the engines usually with run much more stable, live a longer life with less issues.......... +1000, see we do agree on something :) This is Reggie Tongue by the way.. |

I agree totally but it hard to use an extra 3 minutes of fuel even driving as hard as possible

Bonito
????? Just got in my new bonito and notice that the carb restrictor was 5.4.
But my old bonito has a 8 in it wondering if the 5.4 will kill any top or bottom power :batman: |

Clockwork Christmas presents heading across the pond, more clockwork video's coming your way in 2014, clockworks, clockworks
|
Hi Sam, in that video it sounds like the engine is way too lean on the straight, the engine starts to bog down at the end and there is no top end. I reckon there would be at least 1/2 a second off the lap time with better top end based on that video.

Clockworks
it looks like Clockwork engines are destroying the competition. I am certainly not surprised. Best engines I've ever owned. No competition.

hey neal i was wondering what plugs you liked using for stock vs modified?....kinda wanted to stay away from os as i hear they are kinda flimsy...so if it has a ton of bottom... would think a novarossi 9886/41001 would kick some serious a$$?? tried it?? i have an os 2060 and a nova 41001 so i'll be fine either way...really likng the looks of performance and quality from these fx royals....definitely what i'm gonna run next year to change it up a bit...still hadn't decided whether to get them modded or not...how were truggy runtimes modded vs unmodded?
