no...its not bad for stock....has less bottom and less top then the BTT...but BTT is modded...but one of my mildest mods....

hambone 01-28-2012 08:50 AM

The BTT is not bad for a new engine with a break-in tune. Lol. Alpha sounds flat.

bigjayjay1 01-28-2012 09:06 AM

Alpha does sound flat I've actually never seen one of these mills no one runs alphas here but from the graphs I've seen they fall at the top.

rider313 01-28-2012 03:06 PM

Neal do you know what pipe he had on the alpha. Mine seems to scream way higher then that. Seemed like the tune was off on the alpha it should sounds an move alot better then that.

I wouldn't expect the stock Alpha to run with the mod BTT....BTT will have about 7-8000 more RPM under loaded conditions......... On a track both engines will scream much higher as the front tires can unload thru center diff allowing the engine to spool up easier as the load is less........ I find engines operate at a lower RPM and take longer to reach that RPM when running on high traction pavement.........Give me that Alpha and I will bring its loaded RPM capability up about another 7-8000 RPM as well

typically stock engines will not be able to carry RPM under load like my modified can...... My dyno setup uses a very heavy flywheel mass which has given me the ability to tune the engines against a high load......Basically speaking the higher the load and traction, the more my modifieds will stand out...... on a low load condition many engines can reach higher RPM's easier....on the dirt if the front tires can slip it reduces the load on the engine and will allow the engine to spool up higher............

The Alpha will scream better on the track where it can spool out thru the front tire slip....... on the asphalt the traction is too high to allow the fronts to spool out..........so its common for a engine to sound flat when running on full traction

Our track is this way.. especially in truggy.....

I would never expect any stock mill to run with one of your mod motors. Nice catch on the traction. that would be the culprit of the flat sound.

As for modding I have been running alot of 2wd 1/10 buggy so I will probally be looking for more out of my alpha come nitro season. I'll contact you in the next few weeks when I finalize my decision.

Hoping you can make it to a race up here next season.....would be nice to meet ! ..I'll sneak home and night and mod your Alpha while your here LOL.....you can run it before and after on our high grip track

Maximo 01-28-2012 04:36 PM

When I was building and testing the dyno I messed around with different weights of flywheels..... I found that a lighter flywheel would allow some engines to reach really extreme high RPM's...but on the ground the engines didn't reach those RPMs....... then under the load of the heavier dyno flywheel the engine lost about 10 000 RPM....other engines will spin the same RPM under a heavy or light flywheel, it doesn't make a difference...the older OS VZB were a engine that spool very high under low load, bu would lose a pile of RPM once a heavier load was applied ( short stroke maybe ? ) ........... Compared to other dyno systems out there my dyno uses quite a large flywheel mass that I feel is very equally tuned to simulate the load of a truggy running on 100 % traction.....so if one of my engines pulls 40 000 RPM on the dyno its going to be able to pull that same 40 000 RPM under load, full traction in a Truggy.....

the BTT sings no doubt  ..... the Alpha is actually a very fast engine when you get it on the track.......
