WOW that is a huge gain! Even removing 1 shim makes a nice differance. So we can remove 1 shim in a stock B5 without any trouble?

Yes you can do it safely....Ron actually said this in the B5 thread waaay back if using Werks 30% fuel.....not that it wouldn't work w/ others, but that's how it'd been tested by Kortz and the like.....search 'free horsepower' or 'head shims' in the Werks B5 thread in posts made by Werks, you should find it.

Merry Christmas......how do you like your gift of free horsepower, LOL!

Is this (removing the thin shim - if one exists) safe with the B6 as well?

Yes, I believe it is the smaller shim as well. Just to make sure though Neal please confirm.

Maximo 12-25-2010 06:38 PM

vwduud 12-25-2010 07:43 PM

Thanks.

Is there a recommended torque setting for the head bolts? Loctite?

No, Just snug them evenly and NEVER use Loctite on head bolts, It makes for a Painful time trying to remove the head afterwords.

Thanks for the heads up.

I would imagine using loctite on the head bolts, after a dozen or so heat cycles, being about the same as welding the head onto the case.. I've had trouble getting head bolts out with out loctite, so no you don't want it on there..

I've never heard of a 2083 pipe. Who makes that?
