The compression issue with os engines was exained to me by Neal (I actually get to contribute content) the os sleeve is less tapered than most. Therefore the metal pinch goes away quicker and the engine comes to 100% easier. Os hqs built tuis into their engines. I have a speed engine that does not pass the 3 o'clock test but it hauls ass on the track. No compression dosent necessarily mean the engine is shot. Well that's how it was explained to me. Thanks Neal.

Don't hate OS, Just love.:D:lol:

My best guess would be that the people who are really good tuners and know proper engine care get allot more fuel through their OS engines than those who are not as meticulous or experienced.

That is probably the case, but that applies to any and all engines. I've seen people blow Nova motors up in less than a gallon, and we all know Nova is a high quality engine. I won't even start with how many Werks engines I've seen blow up almost instantaneously... The cause? Most likely people that don't know what they're doing in almost every case.

That's what I have found as well. I have several OS engines that most likely wouldn't run if they were any other brand of engine, because of how little compression they have. OS engines run very well with very little compression. I think people that aren't accustomed to that are put off a bit when they see an OS lose it's compression.

You can always get a piston/sleeve pinched....I have done many now and the results are just as good as new, some cases even better.... I have tested the pinched engines on the dyno and the track and they make full power and performance.... So even if an engine wears a little quicker its far from done IMO.....I do find the OS have far less tolerance in the interference of the piston/sleeve..it doesn't take much wear at all for it to get quite loose...Also I have machined quite a few OS pistons and sleeves and the pistons are very hard and the chrome is extremely hard, one of the hardest to cut chrome linings I have encountered...their non DLC coated cranks are rather soft tho....

I really must say it's nice to know that OS guys can say something other than "I LIKE OS"

I too have seen an OS run like a champ with very little compression. Once there is blow by tho your loosing power and risking a flame out.

Forged pistons expand much more when hot compared to a cast piston. In a full sized performance car when switching to forged pistons more clearance must be used in the cylinder plus the forged pistons have "cam" cut into them for the expansion. Yes, i used to rip around in a '68 Hemi Charger R/T. Woot, woot! LOL.

Used to drive a 66 Charger with a 383 in it... Not a Hemi but it was good for 410 HP :D

Tomorrow is round 3 of the Nitro KBRL series at the Nitro Pit. We travel around the state and race all different tracks every 3-4 weeks. Currently sitting in a tie for 8th place I think? Supercharged Agama with a Clocked B5 is kicking ass tomorrow boys! 12 hours at the track on a 75 degree Sarurday!! What could be better?

I'm curious, how many have you seen? I ask as usually when people have new engines that crap out "instantaneously" as you put it they call us. As we've gotten I think a total of 5 or so engines back for warranty in the last 6+ months I cant imagine this happening as much with our stuff as you seem to be insinuating in your post. Just because people are commenting on OS's issues/weaknesses does not mean that you have to find a way to slam our stuff. If they have issues, discuss the issues and hopefully they will fix them. Don't sit here and start pointing fingers at everyone else as a way of making it seem acceptable or to deflect attention.

I used to drive a 1961 Pontiac Tempest station wagon with a slant 4, 3 speed transaxle (even tho it was RWD). I'd guess it had 90 HP

:weird: :weird: :weird: :weird:
