If so that's good news - that the Jammin/Picco P7 line will continue in some form, with the Jammin apparently being discontinued...

Afaik the Jammin JPX = the good ole Picco P7-R evo3 (5+2 port). Powerfull engine with a lot of bottom end.

That same P7-R is now reincarnated as the Boost .21 5TR

The P6 seems to be a new sleeve design for Picco

Decided to try the new BOOST carby on the Boost 3TR very well made and long needles which is different to the carby that comes with the engine.... Plus it moves the idle to the top of the carby when on the engine which makes it easier to get to....If it makes a noticeable improvement I'll drop one on the EDO in the Truggy.

Nice carb, seems to be good quality :)

That full alu carb should solve all the problems Picco had before with the composite/alu carb and airleaks at the seams (transition alu to composite). Altho, i think the latest gen composite carbs were pretty solid & airleak free aswell.

Yes i must say the new composite carby is a good performer yet to run the alloy carby hope to next weekend if the rain holds out ... the above composite carby has had well over 20ltrs through it with out 1 problem what so ever, The newer Piccos are very well made......

What is the average temperature of this engine

today mine was at 230 to 240 at ideal and 260 plus during running.

Do think it was on high end since I have not cleaned engine from inside for 2 - 3 weeks now? or was that normal

blade954 10-08-2011 03:45 PM

Average temp will vary for every Picco Boost out there, Fuel, Plug, Altitude, Tune on the engine, Me Personally don't even temp engines as i tune on Smoke, sound, feel on the trigger finger. Even what brand car you run it in will vary the temp. If it runs great on the track and say after a 40+min AMain and comes back up the shoot and drops to a perfect idle to me the temp reading is spot on... I see so many people at the races coming in and tuning a engine with a temp gun and hearing "it should run at such and such a temp"...

If i was to give an Average temp i would say 100 to 120 Degree Celsius...

Our little Picco Boost is on its way to 25ltrs and with a new rod @ 20ltr mark still has incredible pop on the flywheel, I like to pull apart the engine every 10 or so liters and just clean the excess carbon off and give the internals the once over....

Thanks for advise, do you mind visiting following thread where i have posted pictures of my engine and advise how do you see the condition of it?

I am wondering if my needles are out or is engine losing, I am newbie.

It looks like the new REDS engine is a Picco I want one

We ran the Picco boost again today at a practice session, The new Boost alloy carby is a must it makes tuning the Picco like the old OS VZB engines.....and improves run time we were getting 9:45 to 10:22 all practice.... The lad really likes this engine....Also for a question asked earlier in the thread about temp this boost ran like a champ today in 35deg c heat (typical day here in Perth)the Boost ran at around 120deg c and like the video shows it was not high idling or anything when it came up the shoot...
In the video i put down it was a Picco 2047 pipe its a Picco 2046 with the short header not the long...

Taken from NeoBuggy......

Picco recently put together a private test meeting at the track in Asti, Italy – venue of the successful BittyDesign race & owned by former Italian international soccer star Diego Fuser who kindly allowed the team a couple of days of intensive testing. On hand at the 2012 engine test were factory driver Jorn Neumann, Durango designer & Jorn’s mechanic Gerd Strenge & Picco chief Alberto Picco.

The new 2012 spec Boost engine comes with a multi exhaust system to ensure top of the line performance throughout the engine’s upper RPM band. With a 5 port design the engine performs exceptionally well at the bottom end – a characteristic crucial to handle today’s track designs with short sharp blasts followed by jumps.

Can any one make out the Picco pipe on The engine looks like a Picco 2033 the onroad pipe, And looks like the new 12 spec has the boost carby on it with the long needles.

Can anyone post a picture of a correct idle gap for these engines?
Having problems getting it right

camiloro 03-29-2012 12:51 PM

Good day,

i have a picco boost, an i lost in the carburation, please someone, tell me a initila setupo gor the carburator, to start to tune the engine.

i need the turns of the two iddles, of the carburator. i start to tune the engine, of this point.

a question, to this engine like the low rich or high richo or otherwise

Rcrenew 03-29-2012 05:45 PM

The older boost had different carb than the new ones. Which carb do you have, Long LSN or short LSN?

remove the carburetor, look underneath at the opening. Slowly close the idle gap with the idle screw until there is no opening then stop just when the opening is gone. Now go 1.5 turns in on the idle screw.

Here are pictures of a Race tuned boost carburetor ( long low speed needle model) Keep in mind your tuning will not be exactly the same on hte HSN and LSN due to location, fuel plug etc.. but this is a good reference .

Thanks,
Lance

To make it easy, both carbs are near flush on the high speed and low speed needles.

3 ts boost info

anybody running the 3ts boost? looking for any feedback at all, runtime, power delivery, tunning characteristics. just saw it nitrohouse and for the price it could be an option for my next engine.

I tested that engine some time ago and it made ok power and ok fuel milage, for the price its a good engine. The 5t will be a better option all the way around.

YANMAN 05-16-2012 11:31 AM

speaking of the 5T does anyone know when the 5T 2012 will be available in the US? I really liked my boost and would really like to try out the new one, but I can not find it anywhere.

markkris 05-16-2012 11:38 AM

i just noticed ofna doesn't have a .21 picco listed on their site any longer. strange seeing that their the us importer.

KThatcher 05-16-2012 11:44 AM

I have heard the the 5T should be in the states some time around June. not sure on who is bring it in though..

Picco boost .21

Hi to all . I've been running the picco boost .21 '13 engine so reliably that I forgot everything about the factory or base settings !!!! I changed fuel tubbings and hell broke loose !! Someone please recommend something for a well broken in motor... and from then on I'll + - tune it .

Stubbs 09-11-2014 05:25 AM

Base settings for the 5TR are HSN = 1/2 to 3/4 turn in from flush with the housing. LSN = flush to 1/2 turn in from flush. Idle screw = 3/4 to 7/8 turns in from fully closed (look at it with the carb insert removed).

Performance settings are fuel, location, and temperature specific, so you can't use anyone else's settings for your motor. Start at the base settings, and tune it for your conditions. Get it to scream on the top end, then tune the bottom for a nice, stable idle.

If you're in the ballpark, HSN should be around 1 to 1 1/2 turns in, and the LSN 1/2 to 3/4 turns in.

Approx 1/2 in from flush on high speed and flush on low speed. This is only approx.

Here is a PICCO tuning guide I posted on the website to help anyone with any questions.

Start Break-in HSN 1 turn out from flush LSN 1/2 out from flush

Normal running should be like stated above:

HSN 1/2 turn in from flush *approximately
LSN flush *approximately

Will vary depending on fuel, location...
