Talking New Engines

Well, I would like to see a new black Magic.

I would also like to see Rossi keep their traditional alien looking head with maybe some new twists. I believe the Black Magic was a strong engine in it's day because is was like a Lamborghini. It was ahead of it's time. Not it needs to happen again to put Rossi back on top. I think Rossi needs to create an Italian super sexy engine with high fuel efficiency and tons of power. Especially on the bottom end to get a car /truck up and over the jumps. With the pipe/header, the engine can be tuned to perform better on top. (Strong puller through the entire power band)

There is an engine called a Radical OPS. Interesting head design, but, not like a newly modified Black Magic type head. Something that stands out. Something that would make a Serpent 811 perform and look totally Futuristic.

I would also like to urge a new Black Magic engine! I was an importer of Rossi when the Black Magic was out. I brought over many Rossi engines during that time. I ran the Black Magic, and was impressed with it's unmatched machining. For those that have not had the pleasure, when the BLack Magic was new, you could spin the ngine over without resistance with the plug removed (virtually NO pinch!). Put the plug in and you could NOT turn it over without GREAT effort! All compression and no friction. Some of the guys that bought them had some issues with tuning, but I found them to tune OK. Not as easy as some, but not really problematic. However, they were not free of problems. Many had catastrophic rod failures fairly early on. My engine went 7.5 gallons of fuel through it before you could turn the engine over with your finger, while installed in the chassis! The Rod went shortly after.. I inspected all the engines that had rod failures, and am certain that the issue was a clearance shortfall between the rod and piston skirt. All rods failed at the point where the rod lined up with the bottom of the piston skirt. Removing a small amount of material from the rod solved the problem.
Overall, I was a huge fan of the lineup. One of my friends bought a Silver arrow from me, and it went a very long time before it failed (he is a terrible tuner and is known for killing-off engines before there time!).
A few years later, I was no longer running off-road and needed a new engine for my 1/8 on-road. Picked up a LS1 from the importer at the time. I was appauled at the crudeness of the engine! It was like going from Ferrari to Yugo! The machineing looked very amaturish compared to the work of art that was the Black Magic. It's performance was as poor as the workmanship. It is back in my car now, after spending a couple years as a paper weight, and picking up some rather radical mods.
Anywho.. I would very much like to see a return to the precision and artwork of Black Magic, Silver Arrow, Marinello era.
I would really like to have a new Marinello 2.0!

Talking Black Magic, LSK, Silver Arrow

Huu raaa..

I can't tell you how many gallons are on my black magic. I stopped counting. I only clean this puppy, throw fuel at it, watch the temps, don't push her really hard and she keeps coming back for more.

I agree. It seems like the fit and finish of the black magic was really nice.

I don't want to make waves, but, maybe this was because of the passed away member of the Rossi business.

yes.. That puppy was a pretty penny back in the day and maybe it would still pull 5 bills, but, I feel it took longer to break in 2 times as long as a normal engine. But, I also feel it lasts about 3 times as long.

My LSK is back in service after the rear bearing started to go bad. Engine was making some crazy rattling noise. Glad I caught it within seconds of it happening. Bearing kinda pricy though. $28.00 + shipping..

Anyway... Man I would like to see a Black Magic X1 or Black Magic II. I don't mean a rebadged Mamba or Cobra (Althought, isn't the Cobra based off the Black magic in a since), but, a better Black Magic. Stronger Connecting rod, same fit/finish. Ceramic bearings, epoxy filled crank, so extra porting to give this puppy better fuel mileage. (Keep the bottom end and keep the ceramic coating)

Again. Bring back that cool head with some machining mods and a really cool
anodize paint job.

I have tried the momba Piston and sleeve in my blackmagic's
but the pinch is so tight and the fit in the case is hard on a few

i have adoptied a new way " i use the orgional sleeve with a new piston and it seams to work very well" i get about 6 to 8 gallons on this method before a new piston is required.

rod's are still a issue i have been soft sodering around the lower bushing and polising the new rods before install "has seamed to help also"

I'M IN THE LAST STAGES OF TESTING THE NEW ROD
I HOPE IT WILL STAND THE TEST OF TIME AND PUNISHMENT "BUT ONLY TIME WILL TELL"

I ALSO WOULD LOVE TO SEE A BLACK MAGIC/ SILVER ARROW ENGINE IN THE LINEUP WITH SOME NEW UPDATES

Talking Piston/sleeve

Is this true, the piston/sleeve from a black magic works on a Mamba??

How about a Mamba X1??

If so, does anyone know where I can get a Mamba block for cheap??

Mine is warped and I need a new one. My piston/sleeve had to be removed the hard way so hence I am without a mamba. I tried the upgrade kit to put it back together, but, the sleeve would not fit into the block.
