in handling?!I tought that the Bonito was very simmulare to
the Toro, exept the ceramic bearings in front and some small
changes like the cooling head:tire:
This engine is just like driving a RBWS7 with more than twice the power
im totally shocked over how easy it is to handle.
AMAZING low end, very good mid and a top end that can wave
any asses goodbye, the fastest son of a bitch engine i ever
drived.
I runned it in yesterday in my Hobao Hyper 8.5 Pro with the
8mm venturi and a 16 tooth's clutcbell.I am thinking of using it
in my Hyper9 GL where i now have a Toro nero placed.
6.5mm venturi and a 14 tooth c bell will do the thing or
what in my Hyper 9 GL??(we start racing in Juni and have a little time to solve it out)Im thinking of the power band in the Bonito..how will it be in
a Hyper 9 GL,a car that feels like driving on road on offroad terrain.
AND again, what have they done to make this engine so EXTREME??

I don't really understand what you are trying to say?

Sarcasm ? With the EXTREME reference

No No no sarcasm,im telling you that this engine is a very very
good engine, probably one of the best engine i ever drived.
Im also refering to other engines that i have drived, engines
that i love and compare them to this.
If you really read what im trying to say im also asking you a
Question, but i dont know if you are familiar with the Hobao
car family.

Hey all. Looking at getting a Nova for my D8T. I just recently got a 21 +4 team for buggy and love it!! Now would that same motor be enough in truggy with a 9901 pipe? I am not looking for goobs of torque. The engine I have now is good for the tight small track but for a bigger wide open track it lacks the top end I want. Will a it be enough ? TIA

Try the plus 4 with the 2084 pipe.

A couple of questions:

What's the difference between a Plus 4 case and a Plus 2 case?
What's the difference between a 5 port and a 7 port?
What's the difference between a 5-2 port and a 7 port?

good questions???

maybe desto can answer these questions???

Make sure the base is seated tight against the oring in the case and on the throat and also a common place that is hard to detect and appears to be coming from the bearing or base of the carb is the slide boot. I usually have to zip tie the boot to the carb base as after a few races, the boot starts getting oil pushed passed and it makes a mess of the engine. It doesn't seem to hurt the tune too much but it definitely leaves room for foreign debris to get into places it doesn't belong. Also check the front bearing but I would check the carb boot base and zip tie it even if it doesn't appear to leak as it may at some point. I don't ever use any type of sealant as the orings are there for a reason. Some habits die hard with people but I have never used a sealant on an oringed sealed engine. I use to on the old OS paper gasket backplates and pinchbolts but that was in like '94:lol:

I wouldn't sweat the case differences so much. Since the Plus 4C Team, BTT and Bonito all clasify themselves as Plus 2 cases, there are huge differences between the Plus 4 and Bonito alone that you really can't even compare them. Maybe someone with more factory connections can explain it but when comparing the Plus 4 Buggy with the Plus case and the Plus 4C Team or BTT with the the Plus 2 designation, they both use the same internals and the overall design is basically the same. The internal volume, dimensions and flow patterns are basically the same. Maybe because they use a different backplate on the Plus 2 case, they felt the need to change the name? Not sure as all parts, bearing etc. are interchangable so there isn't that much of a difference. I also believe they incorperated the oring on the head button so they enlarged the upper case surface area to be able to seat the oring properly. Maybe some additional case cross cut cooling as well. It has been awhile since I had them side by side so I am trying to remember what I saw a few years ago.

As far as the port counts, I will give you my version and what most consider it. When an engine receives a port count designation, they usually are based on the intake side only and only the ports that are exposed above BDC.

For example, the P5 has 2 vertical intake ports and 3 horizontal ports that are all exposed above BDC making it a 2-1-2 therefore they will consider it a 5 port. The X7 has 3 transfer windows on each side and a booster window in the back of the cylinder all above BDC making it a 3-1-3 so it is designated as a 7 port.

When an engine has say 5 ports above BDC and 2 what the call bypass or satalite ports below BDC, that is where they arrive with the 5+2 designation. The 2 ports that are only exposed during the compression stroke to assist with the transfer and/or booster fill ar not considered intake ports but more of case and port filling aids and therefore do not receive credit for being induction ports but since they assist in the process to some degree, they get added on after the fact as a +2 or 3 or 4 or how ever many holes have been made.

I hope this helped!

It helped tremendously. Thanks for the details. I now get it.

Good info, here's a little more...

Bonito/Toro Nero

14.5mm cranks & extra long stroke engines. They are 7 port engines and the Bonito has the extra balanced crank. In general, these engines make the most power especially in the mid-range and top end. The news for 2011 is that new version, the Bonito, gets great mileage. Billy Easton is using this one on both his Buggy and Truggy. 12+ minutes.

Plus4 et al

14mm crank & long stroke engines. They're all 4 port engines and come in many flavors. The 2011 engines BTT & BTTS make a little more power AND also get better mileage (12-14 minutes on 30%) than the 2010 C Team. 12+ minutes on 30%. The Plus 4 C Team is still a very popular engine and a great engine for the price. The T & Buggy versions are the older versions and are a great value. For example, the Plus 4 Buggy has a street price of about $229. All Plus 4 engines are known for there smooth power band and great mileage. Most consider them the mileage king.

P5

14mm crank & also long stroke. This engine was the gold standard that all engines were compared to for many years. The new version has been updated with a better carb and lowered lighter cooling head.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Good stuff desoto! I also heard that the Bonito has a little more bottom than the Toro has. Do you concur?

GLOWPLUG QUESTION

Can using too hot of a glow plug in hot weather create a bogging issue?

i tried to ask Powerhouse about the difference between
the toro and the bonito engine, but obviously he didnt
understand the question since he never gave me a
feedback.I have 2 Toro nero team and 1 Bonito 7xlbs and
i cant say they act like at all, even tough the specs are
very simmulare. My Bonito feels like driving a RBWS7 with
twice the power and the Toro more more like a RBC6 with
hell of a top end.I havent tried my Bonito in my hyper 9 GL
where i have one of my toro neros inside.I have the Bonito
in one of my hyper 8.5 pros, but i use a 8mm venturi in
the Bonito. In my Toros i have the 6.5mm's.Exept that
i use the same pipe, header, flywheel, clutch, springs and plugs
in the Bonito and the Toro
I dont know, maybe its because its different cars with different
venturis they act so different??!!

Please refresh my memory as to when and how you ask me specifically. I try my best to answer everyone and if I missed you, I apologize.
