So can someone explain specs in general? I can't tell from specs if a motor is supposed to be a torque motor, speed motor or good all around, etc.

extra long strokes are torque motors ,,,,speed motors are in general the 7 ported ,,,alll around good motor i would suggest a nova p5 based motor like the top elite 5 or the nova p5 xlt and now the newer version p5 xlt 2016,,,,,we have had a lot of agreements and deesagrements about virtus vs mitos and the older long stroked 16,26-16,80 ,,,the p5 is the most accepted and long time tested engine ;)
Like the era that the square stroke RB WS7 engines were outperforming many long stroke models as also the moment the OS 3port was outperfoming many 5 and 7 port engines. |

Looking to run nitro this summer and I'm wondering about some motors for my buggy. I used a 4btt a few years back and loved it. I'm curious whats the differences between the 4btt, mito and the virtus?
I run on a medium sized track so Im just looking for the best runtime possible. Very similar to each other...very mild mannered 4 ports... Use a 9886/41001 for the best power and mileage and use 2096/41021 for the mildest power and slightly less mileage... And yes I did say it, a 9886 is better on fuel then a 2096 all things equal ! |
i see all the new action with new gt -rally engines and i would like to see a new model off road nova with more volume at the crankcase ,,,,no i am not crazy ,,,werks and sirios had wide porting cases ,,,so what i mean is the crankcase can be more wide from botom to the top ,so like this gain more air mixtured with fuel, istead what people believe improving the air flow mix we can gain also better mileage torque and power,,:)

F. eks, the old Vspec speeds ran better when you used the old Vspec crankcase. |
Crankcase or crankshaft? How a crankcase volume can affect an engine revs?

you do not get better torque when you have a crankcase with a higher internal volume. My limited experience tells me that i get better torque from low internal volume cases.

I Modify all my crankcases...absolutely if done correctly it increases power....does a few other neat tricks too !

I do not say that changing a crankcase flow wise will not incrase performance. I say that volume alone has a direct input in performance. And, a larger volume crankcase is hurting performance. I have a lot of friends tuning 50cc mopeds. We put balsa wood under the pistondome to decrease crankcase volume and thoose engines had a destinct increase in torque.
Also the twostroke boatguys tuning 3.0l V6 engines milles down the partes betwwen crankcase and reedvalves. Tehy also fill evry cavety inside with JB-weld to get as low crankcasevolume as possible. Volume/erea in the center of the crankshaft is different ( altough a larger bore will increase total cankcase volume). Neal stated somewere that there is a differnce between the cranks of the BTT and Rex engine, as they timingwise were close but the Rex engine were a larger bore. HE stated that there probebly were more torque in the smallbore crank of the BTT. |
Bearings
I've been looking at the Revenge 21 Off. Nice price, should be solid coming from Novarossi. Skimming this thread, I'm seeing references to special bearings available only from Nova. Does this apply to the Revenge? Try as I might, I can't find a parts listing for it. I'd like to find connecting rod number and bearing size before I pull the trigger on it. Anything else I should know? Thank you for your input.

However a buddy does. When I talked to him about it at DNC he said he liked the motor, and has it for a backup. Said the pipe that comes with it isn't buggy friendly. I have zero clue... However, for the cost, the Elite 5 is a much better deal - it's a P5 with a team piston, and with the 10% off, you'd get out the door at Nova direct with pipe and header for around $160. |

internally it looks like the old n21bf with the small crank bore. im guessing they are just ways of getting rid of old parts. as socket said you would probably be happier with the elite5, novarossi direct is also selling the paloma 7 port orange head for 129. i was going to pick up one last night but $50 to ship to canada is too much for a motor. |
I saw the Paloma too. Looks like a lot of engine for the money. I'm not a fast driver though so the absolute fastest engine isn't a deciding factor for me.
For those who have used these engines, if I put the Elite 5, Paloma Orange, and Revenge side by side, am I going to see noticeable differences in starting and tuning? Are these high comp engines that require new Ross after a gallon or 2? Thank you for your input. |
