7mm is a great starting point and hardly do i have ta change from it unless something drastic arises

hope the engine runs great for ya and dont forget to run a higher stall clutch than normal on that engine ;)

I did say "new" meaning newer ;)

The odonnell heads work good but are really good if drilled in the right spots

Hey guys I recently just picked up a losi 2.0B with a Nova +4, trying to figure out a great pipe for the mil for all around performance more mid to top our tracks are slicker so low end is nice but I would prefer better mid to top.

m.velder 10-15-2011 11:55 PM

I need some help.

What engine to use on a Mugen MBX Buggy :

Plus 4 btts or Bonito, and what pipe combo is the best for this car

Mostly we drive on astrotracks, so lots of grip.We did use the Werks B5 Pro with 2013 pipe

Gr Michel

Can someone please tell me if the 41029 mugen compact header is the same in length as the 41021 header? Thanks

The plus 4 would be my choice out of those two for sure , unles you can control your buggy at 80mph not too sure about the bonito in the buggy ;)

Performance wise they are near identical , volumetrically the 29 is a few cc smaller

For they are just different in the distance from center of openings by about 10mm (ish)

Plus 4 btts!!! The plus 4 line of nova engines are a all around GREAT engine. Out the box, these mills have tons of grunt while being very smooth. The best thing about it is modifications are not necessary.
I really like the these engines strapped to a 9853 pipe with a 41021 header but the 9901 pipe wit 41021 is a good combo as well.

GMS_Racing 10-16-2011 01:38 PM

Im currently running a BTT in my Truggy with a 41021/2084 and thinking of going to a Bonito with the same pipe header combo. Can anyone tell me what differences ill see...Thanks

carlton,

TKO makes some really good bearings as well, i run TKO ceramics in my engines and they've last longer than any other bearings i've used. front bearing is only $15 too :D

I figtured people would be full of info on this..anyone??

PERROTTO 10-17-2011 03:49 PM

I personally have no experience with the boneyhoe:D...from what I hear it is a good mill with little modification. I can tell you my truggy has a x7 strapped to it but my second choice for a truggy engine would be the btts. Bottom end is very important aspect of any mill. IMO there must b an abundance of low end and it always has to be predictable and consistent. The plus 4 delivers just that.
I know I dint give you the comparison you wanted but I just wanted to share my opinion of the BEST nova engine to date

Whats the best way to clean these Novarossi pipes. I have had others that get clean with Simple Green and a polish job with Mothers...This 2096 is very tough to get clean and shinny...Thoughts?

all of my polished pipes i cook in an old crockpot full of classic green anti-freeze. remove your springs and gaskets and cook the pipe and header in there for a while, the longer the better. This will removed any baked on dirt and grime on the outside of the pipe, along with oils and such on the inside of the pipe.

Then i rinse them well and wash with simple green to remove any anti-freeze residue. Then you can use Mother Mag/Alum polish to finish them off nicely.

Plain ol antifreeze (full strength) in crock pot on low for 24 hrs ish , pull items out before antifreeze starts to burn

Water and air to clean gobblygook off of inside , pipe will look and run like new

Tip: do not take wifes or moms crock pot ;)

yep i bought one specifically for boiling pipes, was under $20 at BigLots. I dont usually boil them much more than overnight, takes all the stuff off the outside and cleans the inside well too.

The Bonito should be much stronger on the top end than the BTT, and similar if not a little stronger on the bottom end.

Yeah

But the Plus 4 has more instant torque than the 7 port....The 7 port has a slight delay before it hits....Usually.....

The Bonito we run has more instant low end power then any other .21 I have seen in my life...Starts at an extremely low RPM like only a long stroke engine can......Of course it is not stock..... But regardless of it being a 7 port, the Bonito is built to be a torque monster with the 17.6 stroke....

merdith6 10-19-2011 09:01 PM

well

Honestly I have not tried the Bonito, and let me tell you why.

I ran the 367, and the toro, and the toro team, each promised lots of torque and none of them delivered. The extra long stroke engines are great down the strait, and make excellent power everywhere but from a dead stop coming out of a turn. I got pretty frustrated with them...and that was running the 9853ss pipes...

I can say that every other Nova engine I've had made excellent torque...I'm sure your mod work makes them really nice, but for the regular guy taking an engine out of the box and running it the p5 is the undisputed champ, and the plus-4 isn't far behind....the FMS and the x7 have been the 7 ports that make more torque and they are not extra long stroke engines, so regardless of what the intentions are for the extra long stroke it didn't work on three consecutive models and so I'm done spending 400 bucks on one....

kgombe 10-19-2011 09:07 PM

the 367 wasn't an extra long strike engine...

merdith6 10-19-2011 09:12 PM

Oops

You know, your not the only to say that very same thing.... And beleive it or not it was one of the main reasons I stayed clear of the Toro engines... I Am all about having bottom end and read numerous posts by racers and other modders complaining about the lack of bottom end from those engines... So I just decided it would be easier to stay clear LOL !

However This summer I started messin with the Bonito and I guess I must have found a Genie in a bottle...I have run many powerful engines and have never before seen a .21 engine that makes the low end power of the modified Bonito.... I would say its bottom end might even be stronger then my modified OS 25.... By driving feel , it has about quadruple the bottom end power of a FMS....It almost has a 4 stroke feel to it, as it has amazing low speed grunt that you don't really see from a .21 usually....It makes the engine very tractable and easy to drive.... But if you crack full trigger from a stand still it will pull the front right off the ground on a high traction surface...its a horse of a .21 that almost has to be driven to be understood.....

I love my Modded Toro, easily stronger from bottom to top than my p5. When you modded your bonito, what things did you do?
