Defo get yourself the Novarossi P5 XLT and u will be happy for a long time with this engine, the XL spec shows 2.6hp, the XLT shows 2.7. Need i say any more about power difference. Main thing with a turbo plug i find is that they last for absolutely ages compared to the standard plugs. And cant say for sure that they dont affect bottom or top end performance, that is the theory though, i always heard they did but not prepared to argue that

Thunder Alley is a pretty small, tight track. The NR BF21 is perfect for that track. 10 minute buggy and 12 minute truggy run times with a 9901 pipe and short header.

Great mill, for the buck.
Can't be compared to the P5 though...

hobby nine is consistant, smooth and lasts as long as anything. its got typical novarossi characteristics when piped correctly such as great runtime, long life and runs strong like its pissed off all the time.

not knowing what you mean by getting ripped for sure but on an average note for engines at an average level the jpx will impress everybody especially the buyer/owner for spending little cash and getting tons of power.

thru the past couple years iv ran quite a few mills and these 2 i still have and run as race engines due to there lifespan and most of all there power when tuned and clutched in there respective vehicles.

im more directing my comments towards your price range which is my same range as is many guys at most race levels. your definately weighing your options and surely will make a good choice. be sure to run a search

The Picco's have always been very fast and strong down low. I have run them for years and they always treated me well. The thing about the EVO's and JPX line is that they can be abrupt on the low end making them tough to control on lower bite tracks. With the right modifications they can be smoothed out quite a bit making them very user friendly. A good choice for the money but they have their querks.

The Hobby 9 is a cross between the old S3 and S5. It still sports the 13mm crank with the blank cheek but has the 5 port sleeve in it. It has a decent carb on it and isn't a bad engine at all but for $235 for the stock mill, you will be way better off with the P5.

The N21R Limited is by far the best deal going with modifications. It sports the P5 carb, newer case, larger 25.4mm rear bearing, 14mm crank and new larger cooling head. It is a 3 port economy engine that uses the standard plug but for what you would pay for the stock hobby 9, you can have a N21R with my full race port package and full TKO ceramics installed. You can't beat that!! I have quite a few guys running the older N21BF and BF Limited with my race porting and they all said they have over 7 gallons with no trouble at all and the performance rivals many of the higher end engines and even hangs with many of the higher end modified engines.

Just about all of the engines mentioned in previous posts will get the job done but from what I gathered in your PM's about your car and driving style, the N21R modified or the P5 stock or modified will fit your bill the best.

The Nova P5 is a great motor and will definitely suit your needs. The motor is strong all the way through the power band and gets pretty good run-time stock. You are looking at 8-8:30 minutes per tank stock. The motor will benefit from being modded in terms of a smoother stronger power band and much better run time. Mark of Powerhouse r/c does some nice mod work. His work just keeps getting better over the years and his most recent P5 easily gets 10min conservatively meaning it wont be coming in on fumes. I personally had an Rc8 a few years back and the buggy benefits from having a smoother motor as the car seemed to like to be driven smoothly. I would contact Mark as he will give you EXACTLY what you want in the motor and will give you a real good price. Regardless of whether or not your going to run it stock or modified, the P5 is a perfect choice, the price is right, they run great and last a long time.

Alright guys... I think I've decided... I think I'm going to get:

Novarossi N21R
TKO ceramic bearing(front)
Powerhouse Race port and crankshaft modified specially for RC8B
Byron 20% Gen2 1 Gallon Nitromethane

ALL FOR 190 SHIPPED:rolleyes :

Good buy eh?

:: For all wondering, the N21R is the same as the N21BF with a different head and crank. I think this things going to SCREAM!

Yeah I run a B5 in truggy and buggy and it kicks ass every weekend. It's funny watching it fly by some of these high powered $300 engines and 28's in truggy. I wish it came out sooner so I wouldn't have wasted my money on the POS Picco that I had to send back to Ofna. And if you do buy Ofna just remember DJ is no Ron with Werks.

i am a novarossi guy. I am going to vote for Plus21-4C and 9901 combo

Yeah a $300 engine might be pricey. But, it is so much more reliable
