The New Werks B5 .21 Racing Engine

Just curious, I've heard some people use steel flywheels to smooth out the idle and make it more consistant. Any comments? Mine idles ok I guess, but I don't have that perfect surety that it will stay there. I get nervous walking to the driver's stand sometimes. Maybe that's just nitro though and I realize that it could be a lot factors. Just curious about the steel flywheel is all.

I run standard alum flywheels and all my B5's idle perfect. I can take my time up the drivers stand and talk to someone along the way..lol...and its still idling everytime when I get up to the stand...And I do not have them super lean on the bottom either. For me they have always idled amazing even if bottom needle is a little rich............What plug are you using> I use OS P3
And these engines power wise have a lot of it up there with the top(and expensive) engines. It's powerband is controllable, power is insane on bottom and on top.

Markhat250, the set screws used in the end of the pipes are nothing unique and not something that we sell loos. They are off the top of my head I think 3mm grub screws. If you take a look they are probably something that you have left laying around from some kits that you built. Otherwise I know that you can get them from your local hardware store in packs of 3 or 5 for like a buck or so. Hope this helps!

Regarding steel flywheels, while they will make the engine idle smoother by eliminating some of the surging because of the increased mass the predominate reason the use these is to smooth out the power band specifically how aggressively an engine accelerates.

I use the O'donnel 97t.
I own two B5's and a B7pro. I almost feel like these engines need a hotter plug. I don't dispute it because of what everyone says here. When my motors are running good they temp at 180 or so. I realize my gun could be off.
Long story short.....has anyone experimented with a hotter plug? Is the 99t the next hotter plug? Is that how it works?

I don't know if I want to get the "hottest" plug, just thought something a little hotter could benifit. Just speculating. Maybe the 97t is on the money. I was only saying I felt it may not be. It feels like these motors want just a titch hotter plug.

So if it goes like this (Werks #6 being the coldest, #5 hottest), where does the O'Donell 97t fall? Better yet, the 77t as well. I realize this may be a test that nobody has actually done.
Werks #6
OS P3
Werks #5
I ordered some O'donnell 77t's just for kix. I'll let everyone know what I think when I run them back to back with the 97t this weekend.

hotter plug's tend to give a better idle. So why dont you try a OS p3 or a Werks #5 or #6.I have run all 3 and Thats i my opinion the best plug choice's for the werks engines. They also last longer than the Odonnell plugs, at least for me they did.
