Ok, the Full Mod .23's are now shipping, Absolute Hobbyz should have some listed and AMain should have them up soon.

FM .23's don't have the bored and filled cranks, but instead they come with a Tungsten Weighted counter balance. We tested the light balance crank verse the heavy balance crank and found the heavy balance crank produces 20% more torque on the bottom over the light balanced crank. And after talking with the Team guys who tested them on the track, they all preferred the feel of the heavy balanced crank over the light balance.

As much as I wanted to hate my JS race prep, it kept on ticking. Bad news was the air filter and exhaust came loose on the qualifing of the first race weekend. It lost pinch and developed a good bit of play in the connecting rod after that. Engine still had good power and some compression, piston had a chip and some scarring on the sleeve. Kept racing the motor through the first gallon then got it pinched and raced another through it, but the play in the connecting was getting exessive and I finally started lossing power so I pulled the engine apart. Through its rough, short life my engine held good power, easy to tune, held tune, got 9-10 mins a tank, and NEVER FLAMED ONCE. Definatly gonna rebuild and hold onto it as a back up while I try this Werks.

BBoard, hey thanks for your honesty. I'm not sure why you "wanted" to hate the JS, but I'm very happy that you don't :)

Maybe give me a call when you go to rebuild that JS. I have a few options when it comes to rebuilding.

Thanks for the support

Small problem here Crankshaft is worn where the clutch bearings ride on my R/P motor
I have a crankshaft for my older mod motor Will this serve as a good replacement

Both crankshafts have No rod end play and Are in great shape Just want to know

What if any diffrence there might be

thanks

Any thoughts on this?

The Mod crank will work, but works better with the lightened piston and rod that the modified engines comes with.

Did you have clutch bearings seize up?

trax70 guy 12-09-2010 02:56 PM

bearings

no but I did have some come apart I am guessing thats what messed it up

It seems like if the coating whears off there is play where the bearing rides

Either way I love my engines best I,v used so far

thanks ed look foward to meeting you at motorama:p:p

Mikey-B 12-09-2010 04:08 PM

Ed, you bringing fuel to motorama? (prob a dumb question)

Yes if the bearing fell apart then it's possible it seized before breaking apart. The TiN coating is around 12 microns on surface and 24 microns total because the shaft is cylindrical. 24 Microns is around 0.001" which is giving you that slop between the bearing and crankshaft, if you have the down time send me the crank, I will check it and see what I can do to help.

I can't wait for Motorama :)

I knew that the shape the piston/sleeve/rod was in that the motor shouldnt have to long of a life ahead, and shouldnt be running as smooth and powerful as it was. I run another gallon and a half, before I just tore it down. YGPM Ed.

A real quick note about the FM .23 crank. The Tungsten weights are just that, Tungsten.

We found during the testing of other cranks that not all use a Heavy Metal like Tungsten. In fact some used a brass or copper slug. Tungsten density is around 19 grams per cc, and the crankshafts we tested averaged 8 grams per cc. If you were to look up the density of brass and copper you would see they average around 8-9 grams per cc. Not much of an increase when you figure the difference.
