Pretzel ConRod

My .12 TRP just fragged it's conrod during tuning. It wasn't even running hard!

Question: Is it worth rebuilding and if it is where does one find the parts?

Another question: Are there any tuners that are doing customizations on these? Perhaps it makes more sense to have it professionally rebuilt.

Thanks,
Chris

does this apply to the old sirios and new evo 2's also, the older sirios didnt have the conrod prob did they, in the evo 2 instructions it says to use a 16% nitro, is that just at break in, i hope it is?

The 16% nitro is because that is what legal racing in IFMAR and EFRA allow as a maximum in Europe, and being a european engine.....well.

I use Byron 20% Nitro fuel without problems, and you should break-in your engine with same fuel you intend to run with.

Yes the tips work well for both new and old Sirios.

Actually there is no conrod problem if you just follow the reccomended break-in method, use high quality fuel, and tune your engine correctly. The problem, if you wan't to see it that way, is that you must change conrod every 2 to 3 hours of run time, but depending of the visual and measured tolerance. Maybe you do, maybe you don't, it depends on how well you treat tour engine.

Needle settings

Hello,

Would somebody mind sharing with me the factory needle settings on the "old" Sirio .12 with the black head/3 needle carb? Many thanks:nod: :) Also is 20% nitro and a hot plug a good setup for this motor?

I would have to say NO! I put a new rod in mine because during break in the rod went loose. No time on the track at all!
$45.00 FOR A NEW ROD and it didnt even last 1/4 of a gallon, frigin junk!!!!!!!!!!! The Rossi Rex motor I have now is much better quality.

Sirio Suicide

Well...I suppose I wanted to hear better news, but from reading back in this forum a bit, it does appear they have some serious design/material problems.

I suppose my next purchase will be a Nova.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Re: Pretzel ConRod

I used my .12 Sirio ACC for 6 months racing and I was doing well with it, (before I hit a fence and snapped the crank). When I open engine you could see oil movement between conrod and crank (Piston/sleeve pinch is still very very good). This wear surprised me. My .21 Hyper 8 port that has been used a lot more (around 3 or 4 times) was in much better condition. So I swapped engine brands, the current .12 engine I have now is coming up to 6 months racing and I do not see any movement in conrod bushing (there would be some but not visible, the sirio movement was!!)

But there always is a positive, and that is the engine I am using now smokes the Sirio I had :) :) I'm going faster ! hehehe

BTW - Conrods for the engine I am using are $15..

That's interesting. The end of the conrod was ovalized a little too. As though it had been stretching at that point. BTW: mine had less than a gallon run through it.

how much do these rods cost that need replacing?

OB42TC3 06-08-2004 10:14 AM

$34-$40+
That's not the problem though, the problem is parts supply, trinity isn't bringing any parts in so no parts in US. I couldn't find any in HK either.

Once again; Trinity doing all they can do to further the sport.
Blech! :weird:

sirio s12 trp 3port

where there any problems with this motor or carb and are there any things i should know about this model motor or look for?

Roger 06-08-2004 10:41 PM

I had one of those sirio motors a year ago and I went through conrods like there was no tommorrow. Ovalized brass bushing and the crankpin on the crank was toast. Got tired of replacing conrods, so I came up with an awnser. Took it out of my car, and gave it away. My buddy got one of those $500 .12 modified Callari sirio motors. A half gallon later, toast ( with butter and jelly on top ) :flaming:

Trinity is no longer supporting parts in the U.S. because they probably want to filter the remaining motors left in the market and remove sirio from thier inventory completely. Just my opinion. If your looking for a good fast motor, buy a novarossi base motor. They'll last longer, go faster, and you'll have way better parts support. Goodluck.
