Carbs???

I've been having some trouble with my carb on my 12TRP lately. The thing is smooth as silk without the rubber boot, but gets very rough everytime I put it back on. Its been sticking on the return from full throttle back to neutral, bogging badly at idle and recently the engine has been refusing to go beyond mid power even when the slide is fully open.:weird:

None of which occured when I first ran the engine back in March.

I've recently replaced EVERYTHING. Tubing, glowplug, etc... No luck. After runnig great for the qualifiers and the main's warmup, the engine refused to go beyond about mid power in the middle of my frickin' A-main race! :flaming: I've just now resealed the fuel inlet nipple and the carb/engine block area, and I'm going to replace the tank because it might have a possible leak at the cap seal.

If all this doesn't work, I'm looking to replace the whole carb. I believe I've heard people here mention using different carbs with the Sirio engine. Which ones fit? Which is the best?

I came to this engine this year after running a OS 12TR engine last year. No problems, no issues, nothing but reliability from that engine. I'm not used to having all these engine related problems. I prefer consistency and reliability over raw power. And if I can't get this figured out, I may return to OS engines for those very reasons.

I dont noe if this will work but u could try to use da carb on ur OS TR and see if it will fit.

Believe me, that was the first thing I tried!

But, it doesn't work. The OS carb neck is smaller than the neck on the Sirio.

bummer...

It was worth a shot:D

i had the same problem about 6months ago. put rtv on the screw that locks the carb (not on the knot/bolt, on the other side). if that does not work, there maybe a leak elsewhere. hope this helps. :)

Yeah, like I said, I've started the "leak search" already. I'm hoping that sealing the fuel inlet and carb/engine block connections will take care of this. If not, I'll try your suggestion.

Too bad this had to happen. It was running so well earlier this year. The suddenly about two weeks ago, poof, I'm putt-putting around with the throttle wide open but the engine is only going about 1/4 speed!

Wear on crank pin

I checked the conrod/pin connection and observed too much play. Finally was able to get a hold on a new conrod and, to my sorprise, when I tried it there is still a lot of play. I checked AFM's post about crank pin measurement and then measured the pin on my motor. Here are the results:

New crank pin (according to AFM) - 4.438 mm
Cleareance required (according to Andrea Rossi) - .04 or .05 mm.
Adding both the conrod hole diameter should be - 4.478 or 4.488

Conrod diameter (new conrod I have) - 4.48 OK

Crank pin diameter on my engine - 4.30 OPS!!!

The engine is about 6 months old and well treated. I wonder what could have happened. I also wonder if there is a way to correct the situation since this is a Murnan modified engine and I would not like to loose the modifications.

thanks

Jose

Maybe you can take the crank to a chrome plating shop that rebuilds car cranks and have them put some mils of hard crome on the pin to restore the original measure.
Down here there is no such service. If it is possible to do on your area, maybe we can recuperate those Sirio cranks.

I measured an older black head engine last night and the Crank pin was 4.47 which would be perfect for a new 4.48 rod. My evo 2 pin was at 4.43; so the cranks are the problem.
