I just broke in this engine by running it at full throttle and fully opened up high needle. I dont know what u guys call this method.....i usually use this method for all my nitro engines and they work quite fine.
Whats the best recommended run in procedure for this small engine is it the same.... i have not yet driven the car around so i still have a chance to correct it if i have gone wrong.
Cheers...

There are variations on this of course...

i would highly recommend everyone to heat the engine up 1st with a hair dryer or heat gun, then idle for 1 tank, let it completely cool, then idle for another tank. then hit the track, run slowly for each tank leaning 1/8 per tank. on the 7th tank, u are ready for race. then tune it properly. i found this method works the best for us coz we have just broke-in 2 engines last week, piston & linear were perfect, m breaking in mine today. haha.
as for the WOT, i only tried it once, but the outcome is rather bad. maybe i didn't heat it up 1st. and by heating it up, u dun have to force the flywheel with a testpen anymore.

Heating up a new engine before the first time you start it, is a must.
WOT is a perfect methode, probably the best there is, but there are very different opinions about this issue.
Just pick what you think is the best for you.......

Has anyone ever tried grinding off those little ears on the crankcase to better accomodate conventional header springs? I did that with my newest Sirio and I hope to see an improvement in header spring life.

And you'll need a airplane propeller starter to start the engine on it. Something like this (http://www.sullivanproducts.com/StartersContent.htm):

You don't have to use a break-in stand, but it is the preferred method for some. A lot of people just use their car. Most (if not all) manufacturer's instructions are for in car break-in.
I'm going to try the break-in stand method for my STI and my TZ when I replace the piston/sleeve. Should be interesting.
