im from Georgia and you could call me Tim and i took interest in the Novarossi engines so i joined this site to find out what i need to no before i purchase one

NAWZ 05-27-2011 10:17 PM

i would like to no exactly what you what you do when you tune the engine and how much performance does it make

houston 05-28-2011 04:17 PM

My personal Engine run in method which I use is as follows

Mount engine in car , preheat engine using competition heat engine warmer ,
prime engine by blowing into the pressure line and holding carburetor open until fuel has reached all the way into the crank case .

Preheat to a temp of at least 190degrees fahrenheit , start engine ,
you might have to keep it idled up a lil at first until engine settles into a smooth idle .
Monitor temps frequently , if temps start climbing unplug comp heat unit ,
use low speed needle and idle screw adjustment to get engine to idle between 190-210 degrees F . Let idle for 5 min then shut down ,
leave head covered while idling , repeat this process three times , preheat , idle , shut off , cool down with piston out of the pinch area BDC .

Next step is similar , preheat , start engine , idle for a minute or so , make sure carb is fairly close to "in balance" and run car on the ground for approx. 10 min., uncovered head ,
you will have to tune engine so it stays at 190-210 degrees F while running the car on asphalt in a parking lot with the body on .
Repeat this process 3 times - preheat , run car on ground for 10 min., shut off , cool down with piston at bdc .

Next step is same as on ground intervals but this time do 30 min intervals on the ground with the body on .
You can start to drive car on track for this but do not over lean engine , do not over rev!!!!!! ,
keep temps between 190-210F and do not "blip" the throttle , all these steps are important .

and it works great... this is what i do in the parking lot then next trip is to the track...

Little update. The HES tunes p5xlt ran great tonight had one issue but the was my fault. The motor now has 2 gallons on it and now is starting to get run time!On a slick outdoor track today i finally got 10 min pit stops! Motor seems to get better with more fuel through it..

This is going in the Fusion X and the HES thread … sorry for the double post but it pertains to both.

After talking with Monty a week ago I ordered the X7 XTR along with his tuning service and bench break in.

The engine arrived Friday and I prepped it for the remainder of the break-in Sat (heat cycles). I noticed the little things like the bands on the carb boot and barrel, nice detailing. The thing fired up with no problem and would idle for days. After around 4 tanks I went to the track for the remainder of the process. It fired up without help and was making good power but did have a few times where the pinch shut it off on the straight … it soon loosed up a little and high speed passes were now possible.

The engine makes great power throughout the rpm range and screams on top. For a 7 port the bottom is very good. With about 20 tanks it is making well over 10 min in truggy with the 2084/21 combo. The carb is everything I have come to expect from Nova … best out there by far. I am extremely pleased with the purchase and more so with the service from Monty.

You see, I called Monty today about ordering another just like it for buggy. Instead of just taking the order he steered me away for the tuned version to the regular XTR because he felt it was going to be to much for buggy … total honesty that has gained him another repeat happy client.

A+ for the engine and service.

X7 HES XTR
7.5 Insert
2084/21
OD 97T
OD Speed 30%
