RB Concept Engine Thread..

Well, I sent an email to RMV(asking about differences among the Blasts..), and their answer was kind of lame.. It basically said "We love the V14" (the only version they're selling), and "if you want even more power, get the BX-R"...
He also said the Blast series is all based off the long-stroke C6, which it not true.. So I guess they just didn't put much thought into their answer..

PS....so like i asked before. RB break-in method or heat cycle method?

All I can say is the Blast V12 has been absolutely amazing for us......things that stand out so far is how easy it tunes with the short LSN and how strong it idles.....The power is great and very well balanced with a absolutely shrieking exhaust note........The top end charge of this engine is nothing short of amazing...... On the low end the power is quite smooth, but at the same time very potent....I had it in my truggy for a while and it was able to clear our triple with about half throttle........ Another standout is the fuel mileage... We are seeing mileage beyond anything else we have seen since the Werks B5.......all in all a fantastic engine.....

AFAIK RMV Germany started with the Blast series as a way to use up old stock. Then I think Answer RC got in on it, then RB USA... The current one is the V14, and on paper anyway looks like the V12.. Not sure about a V13.. I'm still trying to sell my V9, and when I do I'd probably get the V12 or V14, as I'd expect them to have more power.. (The V9 is meant to be a smoother buggy engine I think..)

Two tanks on the box, about 145-165 degrees(this is the only time I temp the thing). Three "figure 8" tanks, just going in circles, 1/4 throttle, coast, 1/4 throttle, coast, let the motor cool between each tank at BDC. Then two 1/2-3/4 throttle tanks, still driving in circles, but bigger and faster circles, still letting the motor cool between tanks. Then on the track, 1/2-3/4, still pretty rich, but enough speed to clear most of the jumps minus any triples. I will hit WOT, just not for extended amounts of time, maybe half the straight for the first couple tanks. From there, it's an hour leaner each tank till the engine is more than enough power for all features, but still rich. . Pretty much run it like this till it drops, then full race tune. I literally just finished breaking one in Sunday. 12 tanks in and I just start driving it hard. Ran some of my fastest laps ever and it's not even at race tune yet. Run time is poor as it's still pretty rich, but power is great.
My first V11, I broke in the same way, 3 months ago, and I set my fastest lap ever with it last night, prolly has 3-4 gallons on it, and shows no signs of slowing down.
These engines are great. I run a stock one in my buggy and the new one, fully modded, in my truck. No problems with any feature. Smooth powerful bottom with plenty of top end. Hard to beat at any price. This cut one in my truck is gonna be dumb when it drops. And I had a Boost .28 in there before...

Billy, tell me more about a stock V11. Is it seriously powerful, or more of a sensible racer's engine? I tend to like things ala the old school Jammin JPX .21 - hard hitting and kind of brutal.. Is the V11 lesser (in power or any other way other than the number..) than the V12?

stock is not even close to a Jammin JPX..... complete opposite ! stock is very mild and smooth.... good RPM range but nothing crazy as far as power is concerned............ It takes a substantial amount of port work to make them scream like a Jammin....

Stock with a 2013 is pretty powerful... And I was pitting at 8:30 in my truck, but really had no idea how long it would go as I stuck the thing in there for the A after my .28 took a dump on me.
I had .9 springs in the clutch with the .28, and a 14t clutchbell, RE11 pipe. The stock V11 with 2013, 13t CB, didn't seem too far off power wise, at least from my perception. There really wasn't any adjustment to be made... It hit every feature just the same as the .28.
Admittedly, I had the .28 setup to be as smooth as possible, and the V11 to hit hard, but still, it got the truck around in a good way.
IMO, the stock V11 is a lot of motor for a buggy. Not for everyone. I have a Nova 9886 on it right now, and it really smooths out the bottom, but still has a ton of power.
And all I know about the difference between the V11 and V12 is the case. There is more, I am sure, I just don't know what it is.

a properly tuned and setup JPX .21 is probably the most violent, hardest hitting, most explosive offroad .21 ever built....It was designed back in the day when truggies were pigs and needed extreme amounts of power to get around the track..... As time went on the machines became lighter and easier to push and no longer needed the crazy violent bottom end those old Jammin/P7 engines would deliver............ ..... The RB C6 engine were almost a complete contrast to the jammin/P7 engine... The RB is very refined and well mannered, still quite powerful with a very good RPM range....But nowhere near the explosiveness of the Jammin/P7 engine........ Tune and setup both engines equally and run them side by side you would see the jammin/P7 is a total beast next to the RB....... . Both are great at doing what they, but in the end they are quite different from each other......

I love(d) my Piccos, but I still want to try a C6 clone. I've seen them at races over the years, and have always found them impressive(sidenote: I do like what I see from the BX-R too, but I don't do that price-class for engines..) The video of the Blast V8 I've posted before* is also impressive - very, IMO...
I'm currently breaking in a modded P5XLT, and on the 8th tank I started getting on it just a tad, and so far I have doubts that it will amount to much. Could very well be wrong on that - may well need a different pipe and more fuel through it.. But I have a clip too of my Fire 11 in the same car with same pipe, gearing, etc.., and the Fire IMO is noticeably more impressive. So far I really REALLY like the Fire(probably tied with my Picco-Jammin/Nosrams for fave engines I've had..), and would maybe get another one instead of a Blast if I could find one.. But I dunno', I'm just really keen to try one of these C6 Blasts... Everybody raves about them, I like what I've seen personally, and the price is right..

Look at the part numbers of the PSR. 01143. Been that way for over ten years (maybe 15). Now there are some extensions like s7, ws7, ws9 etc. Probably different piston materials/design over time. Like I mentioned before, I really don't think RB has had a new sleeve design since Rody left in the mid 2000s. Now they have changed names, packaging, coatings, anodizing, heads, etc. But from what I see the same base PSR has been used for years in the S7, WS7, WS9, F11 line and C5/C6, B10, B11, BX/R etc.
Lots of different revisions in the crank and bearing sizes also.
You see many many more engines than I do, I am just going off of part numbers.
