I am privy to some inside information, however unfortunately I really can't disclose any of it.......The K9 is still turning out to be a great engine, even tho it is made in Taiwan...

After speaking directly with RB, why would they tell me that it's made in Japan? You may check your inside source, it would be stupid for RB to make that statement if it was not correct, surely not the best business practice.

hambone 11-12-2009 12:29 PM

How many head shims for the C6 USA edition? I bought one used and had it pinched. Not sure if one got lost in the shuffle as mine only has 2, a thicker alum shim and a thinner copper shim. It has the head button with the cutout on the exhaust side. Talk to me Aaron!

aaron joy 11-12-2009 09:21 PM

Sounds like whoever you got the engine from changed the shims along with the crankcase timing. LOL

I'm not positive but I think it would be like any other RB C6. Two shims both the same color. One .1 and one .2, shimmed for %25 nitro.

Shark

Hey Aaaaron or anyone! Does anyone have experience with the Shark9. After blowing up my Trinity Extech (I can't complain about it since it gave me over a year of running), I just ordered one. How are they??

I'm not posting this to slap you in the face. Just to clarify the origin of manufacture once and for all.

In larger print around the box, it reads "Designed In France". Typical. In the smallest print on the box, and only in one location, it reads: "Made In Taiwan". Typical. (I'm rather jaded about "Designed in ______" BS, lol)

I took a pic of the box mine came in:

Thanks Aaron. Got it back together. Tore all the grass outta my backyard. It's a bottom end wheel standing monster.

Hello Tom,
I actually have a Shark9 that I am breaking in for Ofir. It looks to be a very nice engine.

can anyone tell me a cross reference for a ws7III rod? i am having a hard time finding one.

JPMSRacing 11-15-2009 02:54 PM

3 Attachment(s)
If anyone is interested, $165 plus freight, this engine has a new TKO front bearing and new conrod, the engine had almost a couple gallons ran through it and then the new bearing and conrod was installed. After the bearing and conrod installed ran once in a borrowed truggy to make sure it ran good and put away for a spare. The clutch is not included.

Hello Bigred,
The rods are all the same for the "S" and "C" series.
It is a beautiful thing!!

I may be wrong but I remeber seeing on RB's parts list that just about all thier motors but the C6(squarer stroke?) use the same part # con rod. As far as another brands fitting I have no clue. I wish someone could find a replacement rod for GRP.

The RB conrods .21 are all the same, including the C6, the new 9 series are the same conrod also, the killer 9 is not the same conrod.

bigred0988 11-15-2009 07:11 PM

ok thanks alot for the info guys.

Inertia 11-16-2009 10:57 PM

Can I get some opinions on putting a killer 9 engine in my mbx6t w/ an rb 2045 192 exhaust set up. Seems to have a good price for what it is.
Thanks

aaron joy 11-17-2009 06:49 AM

It will be awesome! My Killer 9 in my 8ight T 2.0 with 2045/192 pulls just as hard as my C6 BBT7 with a little more top end. I get about 10 mins on a tank and after 2 gallons I still have a ton of pinch. I encourage my fellow racers to try my truck on race days during practice just so they can feel the smooth power of this engine. It will be my next back up engine for sure!

I run it with 25% Byrons Pro and OD97T, temps are so cool I don't even check anymore. Engine holds a very consistent tune as well.

Hobby 9 carb settings

Hi ive got a RB H9 with a couple gallons on it. I recently switched fuel and now it seems my needles are off, like almost a full turn. I just need base needle settings to get me back to factory setting. Thanks.

aaron joy 11-17-2009 10:45 AM

Base settings are 3.5 turns out on the high-end and 5 turns on the low end needle. Don't forget to reset your idle screw before you start tuning.

What fuel did you switch to and from?

plus2ss 11-17-2009 01:13 PM

The first 2 gallons were sidewinder, im now using nitrotane and im deffinetly switching back to sidewinder or odonnell once im done with this gallon. It took a full turn on both needles just to get it the ballpark.

This is normal, I don't believe you will find two fuels that run the same. For example whenever I sell a customer Byron Gen 2 ( switching over from another brand of fuel) I let them know not to be scared when you start your engine it may be on the rich side. I even help them with the transition if they want me to.

He is a new video on Neobuggy on tuning your NR engine that you can apply to your RB engine.

Nice video, thanks for the link.

aaron joy 11-17-2009 10:27 PM

You're welcome!

I agree it is a nice video, its alot easier to see a video that explains the process and allows you to see and hear how it is done. Then to explain it in writing.

KWT-NITRO 11-17-2009 10:36 PM

hi guys,

cheers

Shouldn't buy into the Hype

here is the K9's clone

rageworks 11-21-2009 06:31 AM

I think that the K9 is the clone. RB ran across a bad
arsed little Force engine and put there golden hat on it.
Saved them some bucks on the R&D work, huh? I can't
wait to see the King Headz edition.

lol you guys ever sleep...they might be made next to the Losi plant in Taiwan

aaron joy 11-21-2009 03:51 PM

I am going to say again the RB K9 engine is awesome! I have not had one problem with this engine, starts and stays tuned everytime I start it. It is a true performer for a low cost. I would love try one modified, but as fast and smooth as it already is I think I will leave it alone.

No problem gixxerman, this video is a great tool in teaching someone to tune their engine.

rccobra705 11-22-2009 07:36 AM

K9

Aaron, what pipe/header combination are you using on your Killer 9?

jk1152 11-22-2009 09:09 AM

Ever since entering 1/8 offroad I've been used RB motors.

Out of service: 1st WS7 RBMods lasted 3.5 gallons before loosing compression.
Club Races: S5 that has 4.5 gallons, running strong, great idle, great compression.
Larger Races: S7 that has 2.5 gallons, running strong, great idle, great compression.

On the two I run for club races / larger races. I have not done any maintenance on them its all orginal bearings & conrod. They idle like a champ, I've never flamed out in any race. Right or wrong I use the turbohead with a p3. I use 2045 with a 7mm carb restrictor always making the 7:30 pit window (8+ till dry). The tempatures are always reasonable 215 - 230's. I never adjust the botton end on these, only the top end sometimes. I love how all the parts for the S series fit each other, so even if I need to replace something I can always swap for a working engine. Have definately loved the RB engines. I've had two 2045 stingers bend / crack, I'd recommened JB Weld around the stinger to strengthen it.

I just got an awesome deal on a WS7 on ebay and will be breaking this in soon now.
