Hey dish, not to say I told you so.....but that's exactly one of the things I told you to look for 3 weeks ago (page 10, post #1590) Glad you got it figured out though. What did they do, just remove the rest of the silicone and rebuild it without any ramping? I ask because that is what I did, and the engine still isn't right. Could be just way off tune now that the primary flow has changed. LMK, thanks!

I also don't mean to say i told you so , but i also said the same thing 3 weeks ago. Oh well glad you got it fixed , i've seen many do it.
Yes and Yest. You guys told me so. I am just not skilled enough to tear apart an engine and put back together or what to look for. This is why I dropped it off to someone who knew what they were doing. They ran 3 full tanks through after tunning it and it runs like a champ now. I hope it continues. Going racing tomorrow so we will see. |

So is the best solution to just run it without any epoxy?

At this moment I will not be sending it away to have it refilled. To me its not worth the headache. Plus I ran a 7 minute B and had over a half tank left!!!!! |
Just remember the epoxy also works as a crank balance..the engine was designed to have the putty in it..I have no clue about what the long term effects would be to remove it, but maybe someone from Sirio or Trinity can chime in, or an pro engine guy. I would like to know what the major differences would be, other than longer run times and a more balanced crank
|
Im not an engine pro but I don't think the epoxy effects crank ballance much. They drill the crank to lighten it and the epoxy ramp is supposed to help with fuel flow. Prolly helps mileage as well.
|
You have to love these motors, I won my a-main saturday in 97 degree temps, tons of horsepower, and came off the track to a whopping 168 degrees. UNREAL!!
Qualified 7th, but went into turn 2 in first place and never looked back. This motor is so silky smooth................Pitted at the 8 minute mark for the 15 minute main. :) |
I'm seriously looking at the Fully-modded Extech .24 for my Losi 8ight-T 2.0 and was wondering if anyone has any feedback on the power and mileage of this engine. Are 10 min runs attainable with a good tune and a smooth throttle finger? Also, is anyone running Trinity Monster Horsepower blend (12% oil) in this engine, or is it best to run the recommended Trinity Platinum blend (8% oil)?

From what I can see Slay, The crank has more materials on the top making it top heavy..I would think filling that hole and since most of the epoxy sits in that inner tube it would surely help with balance..but that's just a guess |

Thanks for the feedback Qmartin. What have you experienced as far as run time is concerned with your .21 and .24? What fuel are you using?
|
I have the ex tech .24 pre-tuned. I broke it in and did one race day on it. It is a monster. I did a 8 min pit in the main and still had fuel in the tank. The engine was too much for me. I was loosing the truggy after the turns so I took it out and put a grp non-tuned in that was more managable. I am pretty sure that fully modded on is even better. If someone come with a good offer I am selling my .24.
|
I am also only use 30% trinity fuel. I get good run times out of all of my engines with this fuel.

I have read most of this tread, but haven seen any thing about the pipe that trinty offers for these motors i am gonna pick up the motor and pipe for my truggy just want some input on this combo.
|
Dez,
I have the full mod .21, both trinity pipes and a dynamite 053. With the 2013 the motor is a handful with ok economy. With the 053 it has a more managable power band, killer top end and better economy. With the bat pipe it has a very smooth power band with killer top end and great mileage. Dayton |
Thanks i m still thing. The LHS owner said its a good setup plus i am going with the full mod .24. It seems to be the motor of choice for most the truggy racers here.

Head screws
Does anyone know what size the head screws are on the ExTech engines?

The only motor to run!!!!
For anyone out there who is deciding to get the new Ex-tech when they come out here in a few, DO IT!!!!! I have run just about everything out there and I can honestly say this is the best engine I have ever run -- from break-in to racing.
A perfect example was this past weekend at the O Donnell Summer Championships 2 day race at Revelation raceway. Not only did my D8 Hot Bodies buggy perform amazing but my Ex-Tech II .21 was flawless. 3 rounds of 7 min quail and amazing runtime no pits even with the free lap my Ex-Tech never lost consistency!!! This landed me in the A-Main for sunday. 30 min Main and after a 1st lap pile up I worked my way through the pack of 14 and ended up 4th. Motor came off at 189 degrees and was absolutly flawless. Runtime, performance and power. If anyone needs any advice on motors or any questions please feel free to come on over to the Hot Bodies pits and hang out. |

I was in the same race as my teammate Joey and finished right behind him in 5th.. That 1st turn was a bad one in the Main took me from 7th to 14th.. ouch... I have always been a big fan of these engines as they just seem hold a tune and always run.. A 30 min main is rough I went from 14th to 5th do to the fact that alot of other racers were flaming out and the Ex Tech just kept going and it came off the track at 195 .. Joey and I were also getting 8 to 9 mins at Revelation which is unheard of. Like Joey said if anyone needs any help you can find us at Revelation, Hot Rod Hobbies.. Kevin Thatcher |

standard... pre-run... or FM. Thanks.. I have a FM .24 and it crazy fast tons of bottom end.. Depending on your track i would either suggest a .24 standard or per-run or the FM .21.. either one is a great choice for a truggy and i find myself switching back and forth between the two.. |
It looks like a stronger cooling head on the new 2009 spec engines and some engraving on the case. Has anything been done that's going to change the way they performed over the previous versions? It sounds like the other engines performed well, so I'm not sure any performance improvements were necessary.

Thanks for the feedback Joey. Sounds like you really like the Extech engine. What else have you tried? Do you run truggy too (.24 or .21)? What fuel are you using with your Extechs - Platinum blend or Monster Horsepower blend? Are you using the Extech tuned pipe?
I do run Truggy D8T and yes I have the Ex-techII .21 Plenty of power and the runtime is over 10 min . I was getting 11 min of run time at Revelations raceway. For my Driving style the .21 is perfect. Platinum 30% and Extech tuned pipe. You wont be disapointed, if you ever get out to Rev in So Cal stop by the HB pits. |

where to buy on-line an extech I rod ????????????????
Trinity site don't exist anymore.. Epic doesn't seem to sell anything on their site..? I am getting pissed off by the fact I don't seem to get parts easily for this engine.. do the extech II rods fit in fact ????? |
I replaced my rod about 1.5 gallons ago, the motor(fm .21) now has about 4 gallons on it.
The bushing flaked out of the rod, I now have a paper weight. It took out the rod, crank and rear bearing. Everything else looks ok but now I have to decide if I want to drop 200 into it to get it going again. I don't know if it was a faulty rod or what but I'm not to happy with how long that rod lasted.:flaming: |

Is the big boy pipe worth getting over the tuned truggy pipe. I have a friend telling me not to get the big boy. I am ordering the .24 race prepped extech for my K8T truggy and cannot decide on the pipe. The big boy looks wierd and unlike anything I have seen.

Carburettor Venturis
Hi all
What size carburettor Venturis can you get for a 2008 Extech .21 motor. Regards Gary |
Who do I contact about my big boy pipe?
The baffle came loose today.:flaming: Dayton |
Can someone post up the rear bearing size? I see where sirio rears are 14.2x25.3 but wasn't sure if this was the same.
