This is the one I use http://www.cefx.net/tips/nitro/break-in/index.php it's simple and to the point. Use the turbo button and a p3 plug, just keep in mind that these motors are very tight. You can remove a head shim to ease break in but heat it up to 200 and keep it there. Tune the motor by sound and smoke coming out of the motor, only use temp as a guide line. My motors usually take 2 gallons to fully break in so take your time, kick the dog if you have too and have fun.

moparsrule, dont mean to correct you but dont you mean " Add " a headshim to ease the breakin ? Taking shims out will mean loading the conrod up alot more.

Thanks guys... good info.

moparsrule - thats the method I've used on every other engine I've had... or pretty close anyway.

Hey guys I'm hoping someone here would be able to help me. I have a modded Novarossi P5x and it needs a new rod. I know that the Go motors are pretty much blue printed p5's and I was wondering if anyone knew if a Go Tech rod would fit my P5x. The reason I ask is b/c the Go tech rod is something like $30 dollars cheaper. Thanks

Go tech parts are not reccomended to use in Rossi engines. Just because the parts fit together does not mean the engine will run properly. You are talking about something that will spin 30k, having a tolerance off by a thousandths will cause serious damage.

Rabbidsquirel the rear bearing in a P5X is not the same size as the Go Tech rear bearing.

Also how tight a sleeve fits in a crankcase is important to performance, the sleeve needs to be placed in a crankcase it was designed for.

Did you know the rod , piston and sleeve from a hyper 8 port will fit into a P5 , the one way out of most .28 engines are interchangeable. You can get a one way bearing out of the back of a pull start STS and use it as a one way in your MTX 4 Mugen 2 speed .. rear bearngs from a .25 nitro star will fit into a RB WS7 the rod from a .25 nitro star will fit into a CMB RS Pro . Front bearings on every .21 to .46 engine are completely interchangeable. The cooling head off a JP will fit onto an OS or Nova....Rear bearings out of an OS .21 and Nova .21 are identical ...

Fact is that the go tech like many .21's use a standard bench mark bore and stroke to comply with .21 regulations. or at least to comply with being under 3.5 cc . if you work with engines a lot , like i do you will notice that may parts are interchangeable. 90 % of all .21 engines share the exact same rod centres being 29.5 mm . its just a typical design. OS and CMB .21 have a 30mm rod centre . Just some interesting info for you .

Wether Go Tech is a copy or not is a moot point . I think in time people will be copying GO Tech because they are leading the field in quality and performance. Not to put down other engine brands because there are plenty of excellent engines out there. But i have to say Go Tech's popularity is not a fluke. Its because they are exceptional engines.

Hope this helps

All of this is fascinating stuff. It's making me want to rebuild and possibly screw up my perfectly fine novarossi P5x!

Russ, I was just kidding you. I wasn't trying to bust your chops outta spite.

If the sleeve and rod from a Go Tech works well enough in a P5x for another 4~5 gallons, why shouldn't I give it a go? I would consider upgrading my piston/sleeve/rod to the ones in the higher end version of the P5x if the bore and stroke specs are the same - I forget the model nomenclature, but it was something like a 21 plus 5k I think?

I really want to try a Go Tech engine soon, but until my P5x gives out, I really don't have a good excuse to spend the money! Wife would be pissed!

She's been like a Tazmanian Devil lately...
