Hi Alex, the run time thing has a lot of variables. Track surface (amount of dust and wheelspin), fuel type, ambient conditions, tuning, and a quite throttle finger are the main culprits :D
If your on a dusty track with a 7mm restrictor your times are probably not too far off. Your needle settings sound about right for the long needle carb (which you will have seeing the motor was purchased in China) In the summertime when our track is pretty dusty and slippery anything over 9 mins with the 2072 pipe and 7mm restrictor is pretty good for me (I don't run my motors on the limit as a rule, so I am probably a little down on some others run times). The only way I get 10 min on our local tracks with normal ambient conditions is with a 6.5 restrictor and 086 pipe. The bottom end punch is a little less than the 2072, but run time is much improved. I have tried the 086 on the 3R, 5R and MG66, but not on the 7 Port. With the top end on the 7 Port and the high end 086 pipe it might be a sweet combo. I know some guys are getting over 10 min in buggy and around 12 - 13 min in truggy, so hopefully they will pop up on here and reveal their secrets :) ps I also run a cnc head which loses me an extra 15ºC -20ºC of temp so I can afford to get my motor a hair on the lean side at race tune. |

YEP ! plenty of Go engine at the worlds ! and the MG is going to run the Worlds too ! I believe the Malaysian National Champion and the New Zeland National Champion .
VERY EXCITED ! :D |
Nice race report :)
Jerry played down the tyre issue somewhat. The fact of the matter was he managed to stay ahead of the entire field for nearly 30 mins with the left rear tyre hanging off the rim (which put a few more gray hairs on my head I can tell you). A quick pit stop and Forumula One style tyre change saw him pull away once he had 4 good wheels on the track again :D It certainly topped of a great year for the Massive Mods MG66 and GO engines in NZ, with wins in every major event except one, where we took a 3rd place podium. A big thanks must go to Massive and his team on the other side of the Tasman for their support and technical back up. Cheers Mark and Co  |

To be honest the NZ boys going over (NZ ranked 1-2-3) will be pretty out of their depth at that level. We just don't get the competition here, nor do we have tracks like that to race or practice on. I see the big shots have been practicing at the track for the last few weeks, and will probably continue to do so right up the the event. Our boys will off the plane, jet lagged, straight onto an unfamiliar track. I think all 3 guys have a goal of finishing inside the top 100, which is pretty realistic when consider what they are up against. Whatever happens it will be a great showing for the Massive Mods MG66 and the GO motors. |
