What would you consider some of your favorite .21 engines for truggies?

and Go 7 port.. I am somewhat of a whore when it comes to engines LOL ! J/K .. I really like alot of different brands, and tend to favor the ones that make the most power.. though my driving sucks and I actually need a mild motor ....... there are alot of very good engines these days, and the Go engines are as good as any other IMHO.... The Go 7 port has a softer bottom thenthe 5 port, but has a broader power range and better top end.... When modded i feel the 7 port has a advantage due to its massive exhaust port...I like to open that exhaust up and widen it out even further...

Some people like the Go 7 port, some the 5 port. What are the powerband difference's?

I really was impressed with the power of the P7R in a losi 8 buggy at the track a few weeks ago. It was absolutely insane fast. How does a Go 5 or 7 port compare to a P7R??? And what are your thoughts on the Vspec and WS7III?

im sure Maximo will chime in and disagree, but i feel the 5 or 7 port Go engine is right on par with the Picco P7R...

as for the vspec its a great engine, but will not out due the 5port and cost $60 more and will not last nearly as long, and i really like the WS7III IMO it feels very close to the same as the 5port, but once again it cost $120 more to buy...

i have owned all of the mentioned engines, but the Picco...

Well thanks for your input. I'm not looking to buy another engine any time soon but...eventually my .28 will need to be replaced. I've thought about another .28, or the .25, and the thought of a .21 has also popped into my head a few times.

Picco P7R and Go engines are very comparable.. the Picco is wound up a little tighter, but both motors make very similar outputs.... I will be running both a Go 7 port and a Picco P7R this season....

Hey guys, question for you. Replaced the con rod in my .21 5 port today after approx 2.5 gallons (as recommended). Engine still has great pinch but can now be turned over by hand out of the car ¨relatively¨ easily.
When I took the head off I noticed the turbo button was really black. Top of piston was pretty normal. I have run the turbo head for 6 tanks. When I removed the standard button to fit the turbo, it was perfectly normal. Engine did get a little warm during 20 min final last week when O ring in tank lid popped off seat after re-fueling stop (it was starting to lose power in last 3 mins or so). Would this cause the blackening on the button and glow plug area, or is this just a combination of new plug type, fuel etc ?
Any insights would be appreciated

PS: RETRO RC, dropped that pipe off with Jerry at the shop today.

Rocket42 01-04-2008 09:37 AM

Yeah the heat could have caused it, or it could have just been some bad fuel, Don't worry about the engine not having a lot of compression, the engine still may run fine, generally when an engine is worn out it will flame out for no reason occasionally, if that happens you may want to try a slight pinch to get you going again. If you saw temps over 300f+ keep keep an eye on the front bearing, high temps can cause them to fail.

Rocket, do the turbo buttons usually come seperate, off the motor in a baggy in the box? I bought a turbo 5 port and it was like this, I was curious to why?

dgraham225 01-04-2008 11:55 AM

Nevermind, I read back a couple pages and you answered that for me, haha! I haven't had a chance to look, I'm guessing the standard button is still installed?

GRudinger 01-04-2008 03:51 PM

Cool just got all of my parts today and i cant wait till the day i get to drive it :D

Mugen i will probobaly send it in near the end of jan because i dont have all the money yet.

revo_race 01-04-2008 06:58 PM

Got my .18 and carb restrictors today. I'll be breaking one in and racing the other tomorrow. I hope all goes well.

grizz1 01-04-2008 07:20 PM

Thanks Rocket-42. I have been running truggy today after a bit of an overhaul and the .21 5 Port is fine, grunty as ever :D
I think I might be running the wrong plug for the fuel I'm using or something though. I have blown 2 plugs in 6 tanks since I installed the turbo head (makes for expensive running !!). I am using 25% fuel, the same mix I have been running in all my engines for 18 months or more. Was running GS or Go #5 standard plug with no problems. Now using LRP #6 that I got with the turbo head button. Ambient temps at this time of year are 20 - 26 deg C. As I mentioned in previous post the standard head button was normal colour (it's been in there for 50 + tanks) and turbo button was black as after 5 tanks.

RETRO RC - what locally supplied plugs are you runing in your 7 Port Turbo ?
