Maybe the Picco's are forged and then everything is machined? I have never seen barstock that is very hard, not to say they don't make it, 7075 is probably the hardest I've seen. The top of the line v8 pistons are all forged, never seen a billet one for them.

with a billet piston and a cheap price tag. They all come
with the cheaply made two gallon con rods and bearings.
But what the hell, the rods don't cost much and neither
do TKO ceramic bearings. But then again the stock bearings
that come in the higher-end nitro engines aren't much if
any better. I think the main thing about getting any nitro
engine to last a long time and give less greif is proper break-
in and taking the time to tune the engine propery. Way too
many guys chiming in to all the engine threads wanting to
know the magic carb needle settings for there engines.

Yep got to agree with you on both points there Rage.
Too many people seem to think you set your needles to a magic setting, and your motor will run at peak performance forever. Be nice in a perfect world, but unfortunately tuning is a dynamic / black art with ambient conditions that are ever changing. You need some mechanical understanding of what's actually going on in the motor, and a good ear for things mechanical as well. It's not something you just become proficient at overnight - not with these little buggers anyway :sneaky:
Break in / tuning / after run care all contribute greatly to an engines performance and lifespan - no doubt about it. It's obvious to spot at the track - the motors that are looked after run sweet with good power all day, and the motors that get no TLC continuously flame out, blow plugs, and run like crap.
Seems obvious, but I guess it's not that obvious to a lot of people, as there is a lot of those motors out there :D

You may be right, I am not sure to be honest... Whatever they use it is definitely extremely hard and durable and wears very slowly.. it makes them a bear to break in as they take forever to loosen up....

what run time is people getting with the gx series 5 port?

Depends - Truggy or buggy, fuel, pipe, trigger finger, driving style, tune, ambient conditions.

With a 6.5 mm restrictor, 25% fuel, nice smooth driving style on a grippy track with a good tune - you should get 9 - 10 min in a buggy (ha, talking about the perfect world again :p). Truggy expect a little more under the same conditions.
There are so many variables that's about as close as you will get to an accurate answer I reckon. You will always get the freak conditions that give someone a 12 min tank, likewise the bad days when you can only get 7 1/2 min no matter what you try.

grizz your rite the worst thing people can do is copy carb set ups , but no matter wha tthe make of the engine they all have there dramas i have seen new os speeds with experianced racers and tuners have problems with flame outs and they scratch there head at times must be fiday batches and monday motors floating around causing us issues

On the other hand you could have my MG66 with 7mm insert ..A throttle finger thats heavier than a wrestling tag team, and a track thats just dust and slides and I STILL get 12m30 easy :lol::lol:

ps time to change my avatar photo I think.....

I myself have experianced both senerios.

90% of the time I'm getting over 11-12 min, and then there are the freak days like at this Australia Day Cup @ LRRCC (44.7'C) was running out @ 9 min no matter how smooth I was trying to be on the trigger.

Problem with a billet piston is they don't make barstock out of high silicon aluminum that I know of. That is why the Os pistons wear faster and expand more than the Go and other cast pistons.

http://www.rickardmetals.com/

They'll make any kind of bar stock you need, to your specifications.

Rex

7075 is the strongest for structural applications. any higher silicon content makes the alloy too brittle.
