I cant get any where near 2.5 turns in on the lsn. I have the hsn flush, i get to about 1.5 turns and its running about 250-260. Doesnt seem to have the bottom end or mid grunt either (this is on a 7-port). I had sealed the carb but went over it again the other night and sealed everything extremely well. Go tech needs to work on their carbs and these engines will be much better!

I just put some money out for a 08' 3 port R engine. After reading some of these pages. I'm a little worried about this carb/needle issue. Was this just on older gen. engines or have they been updated on the 08's? Is there anyway to tell how "fresh" or what gen the engine is?

I totally agree. Once Go Tech works out the carb issues, then you can definately compare this engine to the high dollar mills.

Dasupacat1, I sent you a PM.

Ok so yes historically Go Techs have had some issues with the carbs. In fact, Brian said that my 3 port R that he is working on had some issues. While it is mildly frustrating, I will say that I recognize the bigger picture, ie that this company is attempting to do all they can to produce highly competitive engines at a price waaaaaaaaaaay below their Italian counterparts. The person that is dominating the club that I run at (and I mean dominating) is running a 7 port in his truggy and is killing all the other extremely experienced and talented drivers. It is obviously not all the engine, but shows these are capable mills. Considering the price of these engines... this fact alone is amazing. If people cannot handle occasional potential issues associated with the growing pains of getting a low cost product like this to market, then pony up and thrown down $400-$500 for a tried and true engine. Personally, I applaud Go Tech for trying to break the age old (I raced electric 15yrs ago and same phenomenon) R/C myth that more expensive = better and am willing to support them while they do. Another thing is that, although there have been issues, I hope you all recognize how quickly they have jumped on this problem and have been working to resolve it. This company cares about racers and reacts to our demands/needs rather than simply forcing a canned product down our throats.
Lastly, I have been working with Go Tech's US distributor recently on account of some personal stupidity on my part with my .25 port. I have NEVER experienced customer service like I have from Dana and the whole Race Factor crew. I would buy and recommend Go Tech products for that reason alone. Hope this rant helps those currently contemplating running Go Techs . |
I had issues with my carb this weekend as well, put an OS carb on and problems gone... too bad I can't keep it :(
|
The lean bog issues on the Go's are caused by the low speed needle being to long. (v-specs run a long low speed needle) You don't need to change the whole carb, just put a nova/ rb low speed needle in or get a new one when Racefactor gets them in. I shortened one today and need to try it out.

Thats weird ... We have had zero probs with the carbs ... the new GEN 5 engines are going great . I have run in about 6 engines this week so far and ive been getting temps of about 150 to 170 deg c on the first litre on grass.. thats a little hot but the temps settle once the engine is at about the 3 litre mark.. You need to keep in mind until the engine is broken in properly you will have to tune differently to how you are used to tuning once the engine is run in... Please realise that you will not get normal operation on any engine no matter what brand till you are run in ..
What sort of problems are you guys encountering ? Are you sagging for power at half tank ? is idle erratic ? please give me more info on PM thanks MM |

Yeah I saw that one. But I want to stay below $200 for engine and pipe. By the time I get my buggy built the season here is almost over. 2 months of racing.
But just a fyi. What is a good pipe for that one? |

Guys, I'm running a '08 PTM 3R and honestly haven't had any problems with my carb. I'm right at the 3 gallon mark and she is a screamer. I raced in Florence,Al yesterday at a track I had never been to before....9 people came to me and applauded how my engine ran. I believe the needle problem gives these engines very unique tuning characteristics that generally confuse most people. I have read countless posts and had countless conversations with people about these engines.....I listen to what everyone says....even if it sounds stupid( like sometimes you can lean the LSN and the temp will drop). I have learned alot from Brian Carey at Pro Twister Mods in the short time that I've known him about these engines....I probably would have killed my first Go if it weren't for him.:D
I also have a 08 3r not the modd'd one...have zero tunning problems.. My truggy runs better than when i had a jammin .21 jpx... hands down... |

There were 2 other 3 port R's that had the same issue. I am getting a new LSN this week and will try the GO carb again. |
Ok i have to say that i had the same issue until this last weekend of racing. my brother and i both have the go tech 3 port sport motors and had lean bogging issues after a half of a tank. it was frustrating i changed to an os carb and my brother kept the origanal carb on his after trying to tune the motors a local guy we raced with who has the same 3 port sport motor showed us that once you set the low end to a 3 to 6 second pinch test all you have to do from there is tune the hsn. I have to say once we both did this we had all the power we needed and the low end bog was gone and kept a consistent tune throughout the entire race from then on. so from my experience set the low end and then tune with the hsn.
worked for me and my bro hope this helps any one else having the issue as well |

there are a couple of ways to tell a gen 5 engine #1. the carb has a black body #2. the crankcases are black 3,5&7 port with R21 and the new go logo on the sides instead of B21 and the word Go #3. the cooling heads are now ingraved with the new logo and the type of engine. IE 5PT for the 5 port #4. all the gen5 engines are turbo #5. the gen 5 engines currently come with the long LSN but I beleive that future shipments to the states will have the short LSN if you look back a couple of pages I think it was Brian from PTM that posted it. Hope this helps Adrian |

Hey Mark - It must be our fresh down-under air :D We have heaps of Go's running here and I haven't heard of any problems. Most of us are running the model before the new Gen 5, but these still have the longer LSN fitted and are running great. 3's, 5's and 7's all going hard out.
Seen a few motors running your new oil recently in some tests using some local Go-Tech's and one VSpec engine - the boys seemed mighty impressed  And as for Fuel mixed with MM oil all i can say is holy crap it changes the performance alot!!! more consistant idle, runs cooler, spools up faster and the run time increased aswell Adrian:tire: |
