Most of the time a 5 port will be smoother with more top end. A 3 port usually has more bottom end and less top. OS makes an offroad engine (V-spec) that is smooth, has ballistic power and good effiency and it's a 3 port. It kind of breaks the common rules though.
I believe this stuff has more to do with the timing of the ports and how well they match the timing of the crank.

3ports vs. 5ports
the 5 ports technically has more displacement, meaning more power. but since the regulations only allow 3ports, engine modders mill out and modifies 3ports to squeeze the power out of it making them run with the 5ports. now when they modify the 5ports, it's a different story. but the runtime is usually less because bigger displacement = thirsty motor.

if you plan on racing sanctioned events, get the 3ports as it will be legal. just make sure you get the high end one to make sure it's fast. if outlaw racing is what's in your mind, the 5ports is allowed.

I think I heard you said BASHING right...? Get a NTC3, Factory team version with options already.......drop a decent $500 Nova Rossi/Siro/RB type 21 big block engines........and you will have a 70mph rocket garantee.

Since you are bashing...you dont' need to worry about handling...cause with that kind of speed, there are no handling whatsoever...

But then, if you need a car, is legal, strong, tough, and can be RACE legally.....Serpent S710, Mugen MTX4, HPI R40 Hara Edition are some of your choice...........FINDING KYOSHO parts is not as easy as before, if that is a problem, why buy Kyosho...? There are tons of places selling HPI, Serpent and MUGEN parts all over USA....

Yeah this isnt all bashing...I do plan on racing next season. is the serpent S710 an good street car as wel as race car? Is the R40 Hara edition out yet and if not when does it come out? And the Mugen MTX4...is it a good car? And once again will they work ok on the street?

Is the Ofna LD3 any good?

Go with the Mugen MTX-4. Hard as a tank. S710 is too technical and they went overboard when it comes to settings. Not to mention it has about x2 as many screws as a MTX-4.

When it comes time to select a 3 or 5 port engine for racing, there are many things to consider, for instance, you want to be certain that you want make sure its an engine that will give you a ton of power and snap when you need it.
