my pinion gears right now is as sharp as a razor blade

thanx again
the .8 gears basically have more teeth per inch. Basically the teeth are smaller. While at first you might think that is bad, the benefit of finer pitch is"

1st: The mesh is smoother and therefore the power transfer is smoother and has less resistance. Less power loss. YOu can also make more subtle gear ratio changes.

To answer the other question, you must use .8 pinions with .8 spurs. I have only run .8 gears, but if it is time to replace pinions, that would be the most economical time to make the switch.

Stock .8 gears are 21/27 and 53/59

not planning on going to ultimate, but it doesn't mean I can't. Actually, I don't know what the heck you need. If I make any extra stops, it will be to RCX. Not planning it, but I might. You could just call me back, like you said the other night.

Thanks for the reply, Scott. That IS quite the collection! Out of all of them, which is the fastest and which is your favorite? Between the ones you have for sale, which is the better engine? You can PM me more info (prices, etc.) on them if we are getting off topic.

Thanks!

Default Rebound stop/droop

Reading the setup sheets from mugenracing.com (such as Tim Long's '03 Ft. Myers), is the rebound stop (both front and rear) measured by lifting the chassis at its center line 'til the wheels lift from the board or is it measured by placing a droop gauge under the up-right blocks?? Tim had it set to 2mm front rebound and 8mm rear. I'm little confused by it... Please help me understand this.
Thanks!!

quick question about gearing. I was never good at it some how..lol... I always use factroy setup for my local track (small) it seem to work ok..

But..this comming up weekend I'm going to MMS (Mid West Series) in Mentor Ohio. I was wondering what gear shold I use?? It seem like it's a very big and wide open track. I just put the one way in my car. Oh..and I run regualr gear (NOT .8) .

So..what is the best option??

Stock Mugen X12: Good stock engine

JP mod Mugen X12: Good mod. Good all the way around. Nothing spectacular, but good.

Murnan mod X12: This engine is not completely broken in, but shows lots of potential. Good power already. Idles well, good top and bottom. The only thing that is distressing, is that the fuel consumption is the highest of all my engines. I am going to continue to run this engine in until it loosens up a little and get my final evaluation.

JP FX T-03: I haven't run it yet.

Rody RB V12: The only thing I didn't like, was this engine seems to lack a touch of low end compared to the others. It is not bad, but feels slightly softer on the bottom. I run my clutch spring a little tighter with this one to try and compensate.

Nova NSR 12 hotmod: This engine rips. So far it is the best of all. Good bottom. So far the best top end. Good idle, mileage etc. I have more miles on this one than the others.

Nova RR12L3 hotmod: This is also fairly new, but I do have some running on this one. Good bottom. Better than average fuel mileage. Lacked a little on the top, but it is a torque built engine. I use taller gears with this engine vs all the others.

The differences between these mods are not monumental, but that is what I have found so far.

Yeah...... newbees like me like fast things even illegal ones.... NP.

I have what you called "fast legal motors" : JP FX3 and FX5 but I'm not impress with its speed compare to .15 pro engines.
