Just buy one and RUN it!!! Good choice on the car BTW. Love my factory modded Serpent GT any Novarossi will do the trick. I carry 2 engines to all races a Nova Flash .21 for bigger tracks and a basic Novarossi 5 port on road for tigher more technical tracks. With the right pipe choice these engines create crazy HP!! I also ran OS Speeds and OS .28 in my DM1 and Serpent, you will always give something up to gain another. Hence more HP less MPG, more torque less top end etc etc. You wont know which one you will like most till you try it to your driving style.

I guess im kind of spoiled with the fuel mileage i get with the os 21 speed right now. This engine would be perfect if it just had more low end.

Well, since I have run in many locations, I have run engines that meet the $200, $280 and open rules, so:

Axial .28 Spec-1 and 2; Werks B5; OS VZ-b, VZ-r, VZ-b Speed, XZ-b Speed, Novarossi N21P, N28-5T; Murnan Mod 35+21, N21P, Roma 25.

The Axial engines work well, but normally need a better carb. Werks B-5 is good all around and does not need anything. OS engines seem to tune easy and produce good power with the RIGHT header and pipe. My Nova N28-5T does not tune well, and cost me a good finish at the Timezone race, but it is something in this engine as I have races against others that have worked. I've run Murnan engines in my 1/8 open car, and know how good the power is.

So I guess my choice today would be:

Werks B-5 for the $200 rule and to get into the class, easy simple to run and tune. Use the Werks header and pipe.

OS XZ-B standard, as the speed just does not provide enough difference for the cost, but you have to use the right exhaust system.

Open is where I am not sure, but the Roma 25 looks like a good compromise between torque and rpm, and if you need the acceleration, can't beat the 35+21 either stock or modified. It is THIRSTY, so forget 7-8 min run time.

My 2 cents, and I know there will be others that will agree and disagree.

Ok, this is. Little off topic, I'm getting the futaba 4pks and 614ff receiver. Can someone recommend some high quality servos for this car? I tried looking them up but kind don't know how to sort them based on size? How do I know what fits? Are futaba servos any good since I'm running a futaba tx/rx? Thanks for your help..

SAVOX makes awesome servos. Most of the racers here use a 1268 for steering and a 252 for throttle. I am one of those who use these servos and I love them. The 1268 is insane fast you may need to learn a different driving style if you are only use to slow servos.

There are brand preferences for everyone so the term "best" is a difficult one but most common or popular is easier answered.

IMO Futaba BLS series & KO Propo RSx series are the cream of the crop but as I stated b4 its personal preference.

Torque Speed and durability would be more what specs to be looking at when buying servos.

Don't forget the right battery for whatever servo you choose

You can't beat the Savox 1268 & 1267 on bang for the buck. I've ran this combo in a few cars and love it!

However, Jersey is right. The Futaba and KO Propo high end stuff is just that, the highest you can get. Deal is you can get 2 High Voltage Savox's (1268 steering, 1267 throttle) for the price of one of the Futaba/KO Propo servos. I've only had one of my Savox's dump on me. Sent it in and got a new one a week later. So great service and great product. I've been running mine on 2300mah Protek 2S and never looked back. Awesome speed and torque, with more than enough juice for any main.

ok, i been looking at some high end servos, some high torque and some high speed. which one goes on steering, high speed? throttle, high torque?
