I`ve also found that anything above 57-59mm has an adverse affect on the handling of the car.
At the last club meet i raced at, i ran 57-59mm.....40shore front, 37 shore rear, with the stock pulleys and the car handled an absolute dream.....this was on a VHT treated track, very smooth (Moorebank NSW where the 1/8th worlds were held a couple of years ago).
Given the smooth nature of this track, anything from 42shore allround to 37 shores are used.
Racing at another local track that doesnt have the excellent surface of Moorebank, I find that 37`s would be the hardest compound you`d want to use.
As for ride height, I`ll generally start with 5.5mm front (at 60mm tyre diameter) and 6.5mm rear (at 62mm tyre diameter) and then adjust according to the track from these.

An example of tyre wear I`ve had with the RRR--
Smooth track, VHT
Starting diameters-
Front left- 59.1mm
Front right- 58.4mm
Rear left- 60.3mm
Rear right- 61.8mm
2 x 5min heats and a 15 min final took these tyres to-
Front left- 57.8mm
Front right- 58.1mm
Rear left- 58.9mm
Rear right- 60.0mm
Tyre brand- Ellegi, 40 shore front, 37 shore rear.

Track- Ashphalt, bumpy in parts
Track temp- varied from 123deg f to 140 deg f (day one), to approx 105 deg (day two)
This was a 2 day event...
Commenced day 1-
Front diameters- 60.2mm & 60.3mm
Rear diameters- 64.5mm both
After 6 x 5 minute heats across the 2 days the tyres had worn to 59mm each (tyres were rotated throughout the heats)
The 15 min final was started with 59mm all round, with a ride height of 5.5mm front, 6.5mm rear.
At the completion of the final, diameters were-
Front left- 58.7mm
Front right- 58.1mm
Rear left- 57.3mm
Rear right- 56.7mm
Ride height at end of final was- 4mm rear, 5mm front approx
One observation i made was that at about the 10min mark of the final, there was starting to be a bit of oversteer in one section of the track......i put this down to either the rear tyres starting to get too hot, or the rate of wear on the rear tyres shifting more weight towards the rear of the car.
Anyway, hope this helps someone out

The problem you are describing here is not the rears going off from heat. What basically is happening is that the rear tyres are sliding more than the fronts, hence the greater tyre wear (4mm ride height at the finish). What then happens is the split you started with then goes out of whack which then changes the overdrive ratio. Our experience tells us that this happens when the balance of the car is not right. Ie there is something wrong in the setup.
Its a low grip track that one, not an easy place to find a good balance. The geometry of the RRR is designed for high traction tracks.
