After 2-3 months of not touching my 710 I notice that the my shocks are still in good working condition when I tested the rebound of the pistons. How long do you think they can last for?
I have a question regarding downstops. I notice my downstop settings always change after some time(increases or decreases). I think this is normal from nomal use? |

Originally posted by InitialD Agreed. For me, without the front sway bar makes the front end dive too much at medium cornering speeds on slightly larger tracks. But with a front solid, I have had very good experience without front sway bar on smaller technical tracks. On larger tracks, I put it on at flat setting. I disconnect the front sway bar on a small tight track and let the springs and car do the work. Although I could set it up with the solid front , I just tighten the front ball diff very tight with very little give. I have found that off throttle in a sweeper I can stay alot tighter in the turn, and in most cases with a small track, a stop and go type of scenario exists that allows the front end to pull the car to the next turn !! |
hello everyone!
At last i can post in this thread. its been awhile. how's everyone? I know one thing...Serpent 710 here, driven by Team HMS Racing drivers... are still performing TQ...if not champion. my kit open up everything for major cleaning.its good to be back in the forum. |
Originally posted by InitialD I've already downloaded that vid some time back. Thanks to Uncle Sow.;) You know what, that driving style is very similar to Thai driver Suruth when I watch him drive in Thailand. Very agressive in and out of corners with the rear swaying in and out like that. If I have the time, I'll try the LB instead this weekend to lower the rear roll center. But I think I also need to lower my front roll center to stock position to balance it out with the change in the rear. I've just finished watching the 2004 WinterNats DVD and I would say Ralph Birch and Michael Salven's cars are more like what you described ... especially Michael's. Just watch their cars when under pressure (driving gets a little more aggressive and the rear end sways). The same thing happened with Fukuda too. |

You may find my not-too-technical articles handy. ;) |
Originally posted by InitialD The stock setup works on most tracks. Try changing the kit tires to tires that you really know the shore number. Use equal shore front and rear. The kit tires are like 40 shore front and 37 shore rear. Once you get it running, then write down what you found lacking in the car's handling i.e. understeer, oversteer etc. Then fine tune from there. |

Originally posted by Sow&Steady D, you need to watch the video again. That's not how he drives nor how his car handles. On the contrary ... Mark is extremely smooth and car is planted despite having a stiff set-up. In/out of corners are definitely agressive but rear end never breaking away. I think Sam Bernard was a smoother driver by definition but slower than Mark. The rear end of the car is very docile. |

Originally posted by InitialD Perhaps I did not describe it correct. I have not seen the Winternats DVD but from what I see in the video clip, the style of Mark Green driving was very similar to Suruth. The rear end does not break traction going in an out of the corners. Just that the car moves left to right aggressively especially before going into the hairpin in front of the driver's stand. In the chicane, the car was smooth. I think Sam Bernard was a smoother driver by definition but slower than Mark. The rear end of the car is very docile. I wouldn't describe that as "moves left to right agressively" though, instead we could say Mark's car reacts quickly. I think this is important because it can be confusing otherwise. Sam's car has a lot of grip and not that much slower. She just suffered from the G4 steering "blues" when she had that accident while leading. On the other hand you're also right about the slower speed which explains why she never managed to catch Mark again after that. |
The new Guy
:tire: [Wuz up guys ] Hey ime new to messing with the 710 so if any body wants to give me some tips about the 710. those will be greatly apreaciated.:sneaky:

I am surprised nobody has mentioned changing caster in relation to steering. I struggled to get more steering (especially off-power) out of my 710 by experimenting with droop, shock setup, front sway bar angle, tire durometer, rear diff setting, track width, etc. I found an adequate setup. Then someone at our track mentioned changing caster. I moved the 1mm spacer from the back to the front and the change was dramatic. It makes the car far more aggressive and increases steering in a big way. The fastest driver here on the Canadian west coast (and perhaps for all of Canada) drives a 710. He runs 6mm in front and 1mm back with no steering exponential, which to me seems extreme. But his car is planted and he hauls serious ass. So, for those still struggling to get more steering, you could try changing your caster. Worked for me.
