Originally posted by GoldFinger I see.. I checked that you were EP racer too. 1 question, did Palmaris can be drove just like electric motor? I meant, you can squeze the trigger slowly to top slowly and the engine sings proportionally. With nova carbs, I found (Im just a noobie :D ) with flush setting of spray bar almost impossible to do that (Nova base engine). Usually i retard it near to 1mm to make my engine sings like that. Oh ya, i got new batch of RR lower arm coming in, I will let you know if it new batch already. Tha'ts how I like to drive too ... smooth and slow throttle inputs. This is not always possible though and depends a lot on tuning of the engine and we know how complicated that can be during a day of racing. Changing ambient temperature, humdity etc etc can mean small changes in tuning. If you look at this http://3hobby.com/userimages/FastnSmoothTh.jpg though you'll see that the top drivers certainly work fast and furiously at their throttle! Maybe there's something to learn from this? |

Originally posted by GoldFinger I never had an STS carbs, do you have a link ? Why not testing OS carb ? to me it was more proportional throttle movement vs fuels coming out... |

Originally posted by BaxterC If I'm not mistaken, the OS carbs for the .12 has a small ~10mm-11mm throat which is great, as you gan only have like 5.5mm opening, but you see, you that the nova carbs are~15mm wide, this allows more air throught, which in turn creates more power, it is noticable, please correct me if I am wrong. There is a lot of difference in powerband between different carbs, but this is more due to the different shapes and sizes of the low speed needle. The length and shape controls the mixture between idle and full throttle. |

Originally posted by BaxterC VERy VERY much so yes. remember that with a nova, you can put restrictors in, this tames the beast somewhat, now if the OS has a 11mm carb throat, and you put this onto a nova (modification required I'm sure) you will have a mild little motor that will be weak in any car. Well, maybe not that weak, Novas are beasts, but rather weak none the less. on the same motor, put on the original nova carb, you will have a wild motor. your car will fly, and all because of the carb. In real car, bigger barrel (old carb) will ultimately means more power. It creates higher vacuum thus making a better atomization( ?), but they using spark(timed) plug and pure fuel. More fuel more power ?? yess sure... In our micromotorri ( ) less fuel more power !! not that black and white. Like Julius mentioned, it depends on the low needle shape. The crusial point is where the trigger position is right where the low needle about to leave the spray bar. (This is classic problem I think). And I think OS carb is still the best for that design. |

Maybe there's something to learn from this? Yeah, for me personally that is my goal when tune a carb. If you have a chance to see Surikarn form below, when he is driving (like your picture). You will amaze with his finger, not only fast but seems like he has a positioner and step motor in his finger. |
Originally posted by Julius The only thing is, the Nova carbs come with an 5.4 restrictor to make them legal for racing. The outside diameter has not a lot to do with engine power. The size of the inside is what counts. So in this example if the bore of the inlet of the os carb is also 5.5 there will not be a large difference.
