Does anyone here have any problem using 16T pinion gear? I am planning to get one but I heard from a few people that tried it saids that their 16T will kill spur gear?

D= 4mm steel ball.

My advice. Keep the 17T and forget about the 16T.

The 16t pinion didn't kill my spur gear. Went back to the 17t and change the spur gear to the 61t. The performance was much better. Get a the 61t spur gear

I am using 17T with 60 spur right now but lacking out of corner speed... I really need more punch out of the corners... So, does most people here that tried 16T and it's fine? Anyway, I will get a 61 spur and use that first plus adjusting my clutch tighter for more punch... If that didn't work, I'll get a 16T.

For very small and tight technical tracks I do like the 16t pinions but yes, I used to strip my spurs all the time no matter what I tried (including the mods Pyramid shows on his website). Finally, local pro Mark Green got someone to machine a universal combo set and I've used it without problems. Now the UK Serpent shop sells them, you can order from here :-

Is it OK to use mugen super grease as diff. lube? I'm using AE diff lube but it is expensive. Someone suggest to use the automotive high temp. grease, anyone has experience about this? Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "diff lube" but I am using the Mugen super grease for all of my thrust bearings.

Using 16t isn't always better for acceleration. Sure the first meter is better but then you only get revs and no speed. If I use the 16t I only use 59t spurs. They seem to last. But normally 17/61 is more than enough. The clutch is much more of a factor in punch than gearing.

It's probably even better because it's more sticky. Don't know about the automotive stuff though.

True if running +- 60mm tires- but not if on near to or full size tires.

Yes true ... I remember Michael Salven muttering about how a tractor has high internal ratios and therefore with it the high rev, high torque and no speed! :lol:

I think its down to driving style a bit. I don't use 16t for the punch but more for the quick short acceleration. Some of the tracks do need that. I also tend to use it with the 60 or 59 spurs these days. Agree with you re: clutch, after what you did at the Halifax Euros to my clutch I'm thoroughly convinced! :nod:
