I think it is better we do like all old-folks, i.e. just stare very meanly at each other.....but there again, with our poor eye sight, we'll probably be only staring at a lamppost or something

 How right you are. I certainly had my nearly stare and wrapped around a fence post yesterday! :(

grease on rear diff????

has it ever been suggested that you put grease on the rear diff balls? doesn't sound proper to me, but i just want to know if i'm off track or something.

I prefer to use a small amount of grease on the diff balls. Best of all refer to the build instructions in the FAQ section 4.

in the instructions, i don't see anything about putting grease on the diff balls. julius preferes not to use grease (but for those determined he suggests that you use a sticky type but use very little), and i don't think glenn say sanyting about lubing the diff balls...

o well, we take what we can use and toss the rest out i suppose. THANKS!

I've built two 710s, the first one I did not use any grease as per instructions. It was smooth for 2 races before going a little gritty. Each race consist on three 5 minute heats and finals were 1 hour long. There were a few practise runs in the weeks in between.

The second car, I used Mugen SuperGrease and so far it is still silky smooth. I've done two club races with it, each race consist of four 5 minute heats and 10 minute finals. There were a lot of mucking around in the weeks in between.

I vote for the second one ... lightly greasing the diff balls with Mugen grease.

Incidentally, for the first car I also built a front diff using the Mugen grease ... still silky smooth.

In section 4.4 of the FAQ, there are links to articles from Julius and Glenn - if you read the one from Glenn, you'll see he recomends using grease on the diff balls. It is a preference thing and you certainly don't need to do it - but you'll probably find that the diff remains smoother longer when you use grease (Mugen Super Grease)

step 2.9 from Glenn's instructions
2. Place a small amount of diff lube in the palm of your hand, then roll diff balls in it to coat them lightly.

Hi,

Has anyone tried to use the X-ray Factory kit cvd axles on his Serpent 710?

I have downloaded the X-ray FK manual, and the bearings in the C-hub off the X-ray have the same size as the Serpent bearings.

Are the X-ray cvd's long enough? If not this is a nice hop-up:)

Thank you in advance,

Thomas

Our local 710 drivers have been using xray cvds to combat our problem.Yes you can use it but it requires using many xray parts.

Which problems do the CVDs overcome?

Cheers, Mark.
