Default LIghtweight battery - R40

I think I'll build a lighter battery pack for the R40 - possibly using the 800mAH - 850mAH AAA size packs ( with solder tabs ). This should save over 20 grams.

The AAA 800mAH w/ tabs don't seem to be readily available on the net.

Anyone know where to find either the single (tab) cells or the lightweight pack? Cost?

Thanks

Only 2...? Yeah, (5) AAA is one.....then 9550 servo is my 2nd guess.
On R40...you need more then 2, if you really want to be "ALL OUT" weight saving....

No....at least, not for a KIT, but you can upgrade your stock R40 with all the options parts that you can gather from Tower hobby....but not cheap.

Otheriwse, order that from www.rcmodel.com.hk or Jet hobby from HK, roughly $390 US shipped.

I just got my titanium screw set, so the standard chassis is 112g and the HPI light weight is 88g on my scales. I guess you bought an after market chassis

Yes - It was a GPM "lightweigth" chassis. Only benefit is a vent slot directly below the engine so the engine gets a little more air flow.

Thanks for the weight meaurement on that chassis- good to know.

Default 4WD overdrive settings

Have any of you played with gearing ratios on front-to-rear drive ratios? I was considering going to a smaller gear on the mid-shaft. I would expect it to increase steering but I am sure there is a point of deminshing returns too.

Anyone find any Titanium pivot balls that would work on the R40?

I got it in a trade - not sure. RC-Mushroom sells one for ~$32.

Looks like Tower Sells the HPI lightweigth chassis for $75. Anyone know of a better price?

Yep this is the same reading that I got for my HPI light chassis. If you get all the 2004 hopups you should see around 1725g ready to run

Overdrive is best used on smaller tracks with tighter corners. The car is less consistent through faster corners and sweepers with overdrive. An overdriven front end will yank the car around tighter corners. Works nicely.

I used the GPM balls on the R40. I like them because they have the flats built into them for the adjustment clips.

Thanks AMGRacer. I think I'll do some experimenting on overdirve ...

Are these the pivot balls you are reffering to? GPM states they are steel... xo no weight savings.
