well thanks for that thoughtful insight.....but I'm not getting that idea from reading the 710 thread..all I'm seeing is busted bumpers,a car that needs a tech manual to set up,and taps into teh wall breaking parts.....My freinds own the car...and I've seen them......it looks like what it is.....An attempt by serpent to make a car without hudy quality...and made in china..

in case anyone has noticed, i never made any direct comments about the R40 as i did not receive mine yet. its arrival took waaaay longer than what me and my friend expected. but yes, it is here finally, my very belated christmas gift: and my b-day is up in a few days .
i opened the box to inspect the kit contents. the kit plastic does not remind me of the RTR plastic pieces, but actually similar to HPI Pro 2 plastics (and that thing was a tank!). if my guess (and what others have confirmed) is correct, this thing should be very durable. so my first impression of the kit itself is good. only i wish the chassis didnt look so cheap with the anodizing, although the other pieces like engine mount, side brace, etc. looks fantastic with the anodized finish. cant win them all i guess.
i wont begin construction of the car yet as i want to get the '04 conversion before i build it; and also it is still winter here. but i will say this. the kit surprised me because the quality reminds me so much of my Pro 2. so to all the nay sayers: HPI Racing is definitely back!

Just finished racing mine today and it ran great. Just need to cure a slight lack of low speed steering and the car should be perfect. Very nice, smooth feeling car. Transitions from side to side very well. I was very pleased with the car.
Additionally, I had a chance to chat with Wayne Beebe...another racer running an R40 today. This is the guy that finished 7th in the HPI World Finals A Main for Nitro Modified last year in Vegas. Very nice guy and he let me look at his car. He was running his car bone stock and was easily the fastest Nitro out today. His lap times were right up there with the Electric Pro Mod guys. On a parking lot track, that's saying a lot. Anyway, his car had the kit tires and was bone stock and was dead on everywhere on the track. The R40 really suprised me today. It really is on-par with the other cars.
On a side note...are the HPI foams offset? I ran some 0 offset Mugen Fast foams today and the car didn't look as wide as when I had the HPI foams on. The Mugen 2* offset tires for the MTX3 looked right compared the the HPI foams.

Not according to Marcos S710.....
they dont stack up!!!comparing each car just out of the box with no after market hup-ups , the 710 is by far a better car!!!!!!!!!!!

Don say "that's the first I heard of gear problems" LOL. That's why I got me a new car as well link
We'll see how this car turns out.

ps- Our track was flooded over the winter and has about 1/8th inch of dirt covering the whole thing. Should make for a fun clean-up day!

Actually he finished 2nd. I know I was behind him at the HPI Worlds in 3rd, until i crashed 26 minutes into the race. I wound up finishing 7th, but Wayne got 2nd. His car was very good as was his driving.
