Jonathan showed up a lot down here before the Nats... he and Thello-true R/C madmen!
Yes they are

Toys for tots race sounds like fun, Just might have to mention it to him

Well my take an the S3 serious is nothing short of disgraceful. I have a JP S3 and for 600 bucks it really is apauling. I have one and i can't tune so my take on the engine could be wrong but it lots all of it's potency after about 4 race meets and from then on it all went down hill. Started getting 5 mins or less run time even when some one with tuning knowledge had a go. Lost all of it's punch out of corners but maintaining respectable top end. I must admit i wasa huge fan of the S1's though so i'm not sure what Nova did different but hopefully they will go back to their old methods when you would get good and reliable with decent run time. But now 2 other people have got JP S3's and these two people can tune. One of them being Rob and he was filthy after the last meet about how little longevity the engine had, including no bottom end. The other owner i'm not to sure on saying that he did have engine trouble in the last final. I'm most certainly think u should keep your eyes on the new JP NS12's though i think nova copped alot of heat fromtheir last engine and i think they have HOPEFULLY sorted themselves out but my money is still on the RODY to maintain it's power advantage.

Don't flame me for MY thoughts cause they are only that.

Doesn't Manti have one also?
I've got NS5 instead of NS3.

the NS5 is the best/fastest stock engine and IMO it is much better then JP-RS5

overall NS5 is a powerful engine

I know someone that recently bought an Evolution and I see that he has to true his tires to the bare minimum to get the car to handle while maintaining a 4mm split between the F and R. Is this neccesarry? Also, what can I do to get rid of the built in overdrive in the car (pully?)? I'm planning to pick one of these up and sell my Mugen.

You are correct. With the 25T side pulley (standard) you need to true the front tires down 4mm more than the rear to keep a 1:1 ratio. This is easily remedied with a 27T side pulley and a 27T side belt. Should cost $15.

change the side pulley 25T to 27T for 1:1 ratio

Sorry to correct u on the pulleys: for the 25T u got more front ratio, 26T u get 1:1 ratio, for the 27T there's more rear ratio hope u learn something out of it

You are not correct.

25T is 4.5mm overdrive, 26T is 2.25mm overdrive and 27T is 1:1 ratio. I can prove it if you require..............

Front = 27 / 19 * 32 / 18
Rear = 48 / 19

vones is still correct. 27T will give you the same front and the rear drive ratio which is 1:1.

With 25T,

Front drive ratio = (32/18) x (25/19) = 2.34

Rear drive ratio = 48/19 = 2.53

With 26T,

Front drive ratio = (32/18) x (26/19) = 2.43

Rear drive ratio = 48/19 = 2.53

Slightly less front drive than 25T but still gives front overdrive.

With 27T,

Front drive ratio = (32/18) x (27/19) = 2.53

Rear drive ratio = 48/19 = 2.53

Equal front and rear drive ratio which gives a 1:1 overdrive.

So what did you learn?

Dexter go the RODY all the way. I have an S3 , MT12 ( still one the best engines I own) and have had a few others from the Nova family and all I have to say is that at the qld titles I saw one of the good guys from our club use 2 NS3's at the meet. Wheather he likes a lean diet of fuel mix, I'm not certain but never the less these engines should last a bit longer than that. My S3 now needs a new P&L but that is after 24 litres of fuel and I did not change the rod after run in.
