The d8 has been around for awhile now, so the kit setup is good, just put what the build manual says, then make small chngs from there.....trust me I guarantee u like it right out of the box!!!

Ok thanks...

Traction on the track I am tuning for is "ok" at best. It can be slick at times, more so than ever hooked up. There are no jumps right out of corners that require a lot of traction to properly make.

In trying to learn setup on the D8, I have been exagerating some of the adjustments. For example, the last race I went to, I went from 3 to 5k in the rear diff. As expected, it pushed off power. On power traction did not seem to be overly affected. Car was noticeably "less quick" in the switch back types of turns; chicanes, etc. I had to "wait" on the car.

So if I wanted to experiment, here's my thinking:

the 3k in the back was "quicker" off power than the 5k (on turn in and switch back, chicane type turns). If I wanted to quicken it up even more go to 2k in the rear.

In doing so, this may reduce on power traction (is this correct?). You wrote that 5k in the center will provide more off power steering and be "easier to drive" (you did further qualify this with "than 10k"). Can I assume that 5k in the center will be easier to drive than 7k as well?

Combining the above 2 changes, my final diff fluids would be 5-5-2 (from 5-7-3). Would this give me what I am looking for? Quicker off power without overly affecting on power traction?

Thanks - Jim

A great setup is:

7/7/3
1.3's F&R
350 F/ 400-450 R depending on temp
Grey F/ Yellow R
Then use the stock camberlinks
Outside on arms for shock position
Outside on towers for shock positions
Hubs Forward
-2 Front Camber
-2.5 Rear Camber
27mm Front RH, 28mm Rear RH

I run this pretty much everywhere. Just minor changes track to track.

that does sound like what I will be planing on changing up from the stock set-up. I did notice right away that I needed to soften up the front springs so Greys are the ticket and yes also on the front shock oil.

Do you have any suggestions on the droop/shock lengeth?

99.5 Front/ 110.5 Rear is what I run. If the track gets rough, I'll go to 100.5 Front and 111.5 Rear

I see you are running a lighter shock oil in the front than the rear, why is that.My past buggies it was allways the oppposite

jim, 5/5/2 will do what your saying. if you find that the rear of the car wants to step out go up to 3k in rear. if your front tires seem to be pulling more go up to 7k in center. just remember the heavier the oil you can use in center the faster you are going to be.
