Took some measurements tonight.

With ambient air temps at ~26°C, and my engine at 104°C, my servo throttle temps tonight was 36°C. My steering servo was 31°C.

They are a newer servo aimed at larger scale airplanes. They do have a longer lead wire on them and are a little thicker so a little grinding is needed to fit in the Cobra to minimize vibration.

Here is a thought I had last night when I installed my Futaba S9157. I went 2 months of every weekend racing my Cobra with no servo troubles. Then I had the thermal issue till the servo just died. That was a Futaba S9451. Installed a Futaba S9350 which was fine for 2 practice tanks, 3 quals, and the first 8 minutes of a 15 minute main then several thermals the rest of the race. Both of these servos were not new and had been in 1/10th scale trucks pulling steering duty. Both servos were mounted using the rubber grommets and the shim to raise the servo that came with the Cobra. Neither servo had any indication of touching the chassis at any time. I noticed when I mounted the S9157 the same way that it sat up higher off the chassis. Then it occurred to me that it's probably the heat coming off the chassis that is causing the thermal problems. It's a chip on the circuit board in the servos that gets too hot which is at the very bottom of the servo case closest to the chassis. Electric motors generally when too hot get weaker then just melt themselves. Silicon chips when hot will act erratic cutting out here and there till they get too hot and stop working altogether. In other words, raise the servo up more. The circuit board at the bottom of the servo is getting too hot not the motor. My thermal problems never happened in a 5 minute qualifier. The chassis was probably up to temp but didn't have enough time to get the servo too hot till the longer main came. Worth a try for anyone with the thermal problem.

Change your servo location and end this.
Did it too.
Looks ugly but prefer it!!!

Need to figure out a better receiver location...don't like the aerial going around the whole car!!
I also removed most of the plastic of the trays. Drilled on bottom, sides, no top covers...easier to change battery and keeps everything cool.
Have you ever finished a 30min final and opened the trays right away...you will be suppriced of the heat in there. Not only was it thermalling the futaba receivers, it can cook those batteries and shorten there life...thus people having problems with batteries...this happenes to all 1/8 cars not only on the serpent.

That will fix the servo meltdowns. Nice clean mod.

Toro all those parts are super trick and I'd add any to a car of mine. Except the Aluminum shock spring cups. Those are just dumb and add weight. That's getting into needless T-maxx style bling IMO
